| The Eastern Woodland Carvers Club Inc. is located in beautiful downtown Converse, Miami County, Indiana at 101 South Jefferson Street. We have the only three story building in town. We are open to the general public as well as to our carvers each and every Tuesday evening from 6:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. or as long as people want to stay to carve. We also hold seminars on special weekends. These seminars are taught by local club members or by Instructors from all across the country. The cost of these classes run from $30.00 to $180.00 depending on the amount of difficulty and instruction needed. We usually hold four (4) or five (5) weekend seminars per year for carving or woodburning. Sometime they are two day and sometime they are three day classes. We also hold special Thursday evening classes hosted by club members. The ladies also have Basket classes on a bi-monthly basis. The second floor has a craft room for the ladies on the south side and an apartment on the north side for our out of town Instructors. The club has 250 plus members. This number changes throughout the year and by December we usually have over 300 members. We have our business meeting on the second Tuesday of each month at 7:00 p.m. and our Board of Directors meetings are held bi-monthly on the first Tuesday at 5:30 p.m. starting in January. All members and the public are always welcome. We have a group of nine Directors who are elected for three year-terms. Three Directors are elected each year so we don't have a large group of new members joining at the same time. This allows us to remain steady in all our activities and directions. Our Officers are elected to one-year terms and are elected at our December meeting the same time as our Directors. We have a group of six Officers who run our business meetings and take care of our day-to-day activities. The Board oversees the club and makes sure all activities are within the scope of our by-laws. We also have another group of people we call Life Members. These people have the duty to oversee everything that is done here in the club. They have the power to make any changes they see fit for the betterment of the club. Their rules always replace any other rule made by any other group of Officers or Directors. It is their duty to keep everything on firm ground and to see that all members are treated with respect. Life Members have the power to evict or remove any Officer or Director from their position. They may even remove a member from the club if they become disruptive to the club as a whole. Life Members are nominated to membership by the club members but are chosen to become Life Members by the existing Life Members. Nobody is ever added without a majority of Life Members as backers. We host two carving shows per year. Our July Show is open to everyone for entries but the December Show is for Club Members entry only. The shows are always open to the public with no admittance fees. The Converse July Show is held at the Miami County Fairgrounds in the northern edge of Converse, Indiana. This show is always held on the third full weekend in July. Our December Show is held in our Carving Club at 101 South Jefferson on the second full weekend of December. We hold a banquet and a live auction following the show in December. |
