Dr. Musse Gabobe Hassan, was born in Banadir, Somalia in 1964 and was raised up in Mogadishu City, the Capital of Somalia. Dr. Musse attended and completed his secondary studies at Maritime and Fishery Institute, Mogadishu. He obtained his first degree (B.Sc.) in Marine Science in 1989 from the Department of Marine Science, Technical and Commercial Teachers’ College, Somali National University. While perusing his first degree, he was employed at Maritime and Fishery Institute in Mogadishu, Somalia as a teacher.
In July 1996, he enrolled as a full-time Master of Science (M.Sc.) program in the Faculty of Applied Science and Technology (FSGT), Universiti Putra Malaysia at Teregganu branch. He has been on research target strength of pelagic fish for application on fish stock assessment. His research highlighted some implications of target strength and its relation to stock assessment.
After securing a scholarship under Science and Technology Merit Programme from Islamic Development Bank, Jeddah in September 2000, he registered a full-time Ph.D. programme in the Faculty of Science and Environmental Studies, Universiti Putra Malaysia. For the last three years, he has been involved a research on the impacts of spatio-temporal oceanographic phenomenon on the small pelagic fishery in the Straits of Malacca. He is currently the acting President of Somali Fisheries Society @ (http://www.soma-fish.net) and he is an active member of several local and international academic/research associations. He is a principal author of over 25 journals and proceeding papers in international conferences.
He is married to Mrs. Ubah Nur Gesie and are blessed with two sons (Khalid and Khadar) and two daughters (Khatra and Khuluud).
Dr. Musse completed his Doctor of Philosophy degree in July, 2004. He looks forward in advancement of both research and academic activities in his country.
