Never before
by
Gregory A. Nelson
Never before have I witnessed such devastating pain, as the fires leaped, and the debris did rain...
Never before have I been so afraid, as fear gripped my thumping heart, and dark clouds caused the sun to fade...
Never before have I beheld so terrible an act, and I ran as beneath me the pavement did crack...
An act of war, unfolding in my very own eyes, souls lost by the thousands, I hear their screams and their cries...
But as the dust did fall, and so many lives were lost, and I began to realize the terrible cost...
I suddenly began to see something I had never seen before, As if this awful tragedy had opened a hidden door...
Men and women, of all races and creeds, standing and shouting, seeking to solve the needs...
Together, as if for the very first time, empowered by God, working to diminish the crime...
Pulling together, through tears and through sorrow, working as one as if there would be no tomorrow...
No racial barriers, no slanderous slurs, each hand helping the others, all skin colors blurred...
Americans, together, working and caring for one and for all, though the enemy struck us hard by standing together, Never shall we fall.
