The three poems you are about to experience, and hopefully enjoy, were all written about the September 11th tradgedy of 2001. The first poem "For Freedom's sake", was written as a series of speeches for a group of pre-kindergarten kids who's theme happened to be about what we now call "911". The langauge and wording used is very simple and direct like a mom or dad talking to small children. The second poem "Never before", was written for a High School memorial program, and as such I wrote the poem in sort of a limric/rap style to benifit the teenagers who would be listening. The third was a little different. "Together We Stand" was written at the request of my wife Charleen, for a similar program at the daycare where she teaches. But when I wrote this I was starting to feel it". Unlike the others that I sort of just cranked out... this one caused me to have to think, and in thinking I began to reflect, you can tell because the words go kind of deep, it is definatly one for adults to take in. |
