G-Fest X took place Friday, July 18 - Sunday, July 20, 2003, at the Radisson Hotel in Arlington Heights, IL (just outside Chicago).  The special guests were Noriaki Yuasa (director of the Showa Gamera series), Carl Craig (intrepid boy scout Jim Morgan in Gamera vs. Viras), and Robert Scott Field (Android M-11 in Godzilla vs. King Ghidorah).  The theatrical movie screenings included Battle In Outer Space, Gamera 3:  Revenge Of Iris, and the North American premiere of Godzilla, Mothra, And King Ghidorah:  Giant Monsters All-Out Attack.

DMI webmaster Philip (Zillamon51) and guest reviewer Jen were both in attendance.  We created this page to give all of our visitors a look at the convention.  We had a lot of fun, and hope to meet some of you there in the years ahead!
Saturday evening is when the various contests take place.  Entries for the Short Film and Music Video competitions are screened, followed by the Costume Parade.  Last year, Jen appeared as Miss Namikawa from Godzilla vs. Monster Zero.  This year, she was the title character from Sakuya, The Slayer Of Demons.

Turtle Boy Moth Girl
This year, most of the masqueraders were children.  Above are a pair of cool young fans.  Look out!  It's "Gamera Boy (Left) vs. Mothra Girl (Right)!"
Jen & Robert Scott Field Jen & Shusuke Kaneko
Above: After the Costume Parade winds down, there's always time for mingling and photo ops in the lobby.  Left: Jen and Robert Scott Field.  Right: Jen and Shusuke Kaneko.

That's right:  Shusuke Kaneko!  Though not scheduled to appear as a special guest, Mr. Kaneko did show up at G-Fest X!  The appearance of the esteemed director of the
Heisei Gamera Trilogy was certainly a pleasant surprise.  He reportedly flew in from Japan to see how GMK played for an American audience.  No fanfare; he just bought a ticket to the con like anyone else!

The
Shusuke Kaneko Information Website has a page detailing his visit to Chicago and G-Fest.  Click here to check it out.
Ooh, scary!
Above: Jen must be scary...that Godzilla guy has his tail between his legs!

Next: On to the Pickwick Theater for the U.S. premiere of GMK!
