Americans were stunned in 1980 when headlines revealed Bauman had been caught having a sexual rendezvous with a young male prostitute. ******* In his book, "The Gentleman From Maryland: The Conscience of a Gay Conservative," Bauman revealed the conditions that shaped his own tortured double life as a congressman and closet homosexual. ******* At the tender age of 5, Bauman had been sexually seduced by a neighbor boy about 12. Reflecting on that pivotal experience, as well as subsequent similar episodes, Bauman describes the powerful feelings he found welling up within him at a young age: ******* This was not a matter of chance attraction to a forbidden object. This was a frightening force from deep within my being, an involuntary reaction to the sight, smell, and feel of other boys. I neither understood nor accepted it. ******* And I came to hate myself because of the presence within me of this horrible weakness, this uncleanness of spirit over which I seemed to have no control. So added to the loneliness was a growing but barely perceived self-loathing. Hadn't I always known that something was wrong with me? ******* Wasn't that why God took my mom away from me? Didn't they send me away to school because I was bad? And now this strange internal desire was further confirmation of just how unworthy a person I was. ******* Nearly four decades later it seems easy to dramatize the thoughts of an introspective 8-year-old boy. At the time it was overpowering, but not nearly so dramatic. Drama requires an audience and I was determined that no one would ever know about the turmoil going on inside. I was sure my predicament was a unique punishment designed only for me. ******* Unable to understand it myself, I could never even attempt an explanation to someone else. I countered my dilemma with a plan that constituted the essence of simplicity. I made up my mind that I was not "queer." I heard all those denunciations of homos by my military school peers and firmly resolved I could never be considered one of such a despicable breed. ******* To buttress my intellectual conviction of purity, I was required to construct a whole series of mental fortifications to protect and conceal the real me, not just from the external world, but from myself as well. In time, the turreted, crenellated walls grew into a self-impressive battlement like the infamous Maginot Line � And like that ill-conceived strategy, when the time came, my own defenses crumbled, not just in one ultimate test, but repeatedly. ******* Bauman was elected in 1973 as representative of the first congressional district of Maryland. He led a double life as a married man with four children, while at the same time engaging in anonymous homosexual one-night stands. He describes the wrenching emotional aftermath he experienced after each such episode: ******* Each time I would feel great guilt and head for Saturday confession at St. Peter's or St. Joseph's on Capitol Hill so I could make amends with God and be in the state of grace for Sunday Communion. I would always vow to myself and God I would never do it again. ******* I blotted out my doubts, my actions, submerging myself in the excitement of politics where compliments, victories and deference helped reassure me I was a good person. Rather than accept myself as I was, I fought for symbols and abstractions promising greater glory and meaning to my life. If I could save the world, I might avoid having to save myself. ******* My own selfish goal was to conceal the truth. Looking back, it is difficult to believe the degree of insanity marking my own self-deception and that I tried to impose on my wife. ******* How could any normal and moral human being do what I did? How could anyone, however callous, repeatedly be unfaithful to one's spouse (lying, evading responsibility, breaking solemn vows)? I have described how it could be done. Why I did it is the serious question. And I have no answer, even to this day. I do not know. ******* In many ways, I was driven by a force over which I seemed to have little control. Of course, my choice was conscious and deliberate. It could have been altered. But some compulsion drove me, blotting out all I had learned, diminishing in importance all that was most dear and important. I seemed willing to risk my marriage, my wife and children, even life itself. ******* And yet I felt compelled to act as I did. Some inner force drove me, and repeatedly pursuing this insane conduct made it more difficult to resist each time I was tempted again. ******* Most amazing was my failure to consider asking for help. Each time I would feel shame, remorse and guilt. That tough trio of emotions gnawed at me constantly, I prayed for deliverance, went to confession, always at a church where the priest would not know me. ******* Sometimes I would go for weeks, even months, without incident, and then something would set me off: a period of depression, an event that brought elation. Setback or triumph, there was no set pattern of causation each time, but repetition seemed inevitable. I could not accept my own sexuality and I acted in public consistent with my religious and moral beliefs, even if my private life was totally inconsistent. ******* In 1980, at the age of 43, Bauman saw his political career come crashing down upon him following the exposure of his solicitation of a teen-age male hustler. He subsequently lost his re-election bid, as well as his family, his historic home and many of his powerful friends. ******* Doing unto others ******* OK, rewind tape to age 5. ******* Bauman, poignantly recounting his tortured life, confesses that he was seduced by an older boy at that tender and exquisitely vulnerable age. ******* Did that experience plant in Bauman the seed of his future homosexuality? ******* It would seem so, despite today's wishful but unsubstantiated claims of a "gay gene." According to the peer-reviewed 1998 study, "Sexual Abuse of Boys," by William C. Holmes, M.D., and Gail B. Slap, M.D., sexually abused young males "were up to seven times more likely to self-identify as gay or bisexual than peers who had not been abused." ******* What about the 12-year-old? Why does he sexually seduce a 5-year-old boy? ******* No doubt he's just doing to a new kid what was done to him. ******* Since children are so impressionable, sexual seduction or assault is a major trauma that can, and often does, literally re-program the victim's identity � his view of who and what he is. While the study cited above seems to confirm this, the point is self-evident: prisons are full of child-molesters who were molested as children and batterers who were battered as children. ******* The 12-year-old very likely felt compelled to convert the innocent, the uninitiated. ******* An innocent young child has a "bright-light" quality that feels strangely threatening to those in the grip of corruption. This explains a great deal of child abuse. ******* To the person who's been "re-programmed," it's deeply satisfying � far beyond mere sexual pleasure � to "initiate" an innocent person. Doing so serves to anesthetize his conscience and assuage his inner conflict by destroying the innocence of another person. ******* Stunning advances ******* There was a time when Americans knew that homosexuals were not "born that way," but rather, had their normal gender-identity development disturbed and re-directed through early childhood experiences. Not just psychiatrists and psychologists, but average people once recognized on some level that flawed relationships with mothers and fathers could cause girls and boys to grow up with gender confusion. ******* But that was a time before much of America itself was seduced into believing there is no God, or if there is a God that He is inconsequential to the affairs of men. It was a time when biblical morality inspired the culture and laws of the land. ******* In the America of another generation, homosexuality was a crime in the eyes of the law and a mortal sin in the eyes of religion. Medicine came to homosexuality's rescue by declaring it, like alcoholism, no longer a crime but, rather, a disease � a pathological behavior. ******* Decades later, under intense pressure from homosexuals within and without the psychiatric establishment, medicine again saved homosexuality � but this time by declaring it not to be a disease, not abnormal, pathological behavior. ******* The rapid and stunning ascendancy of homosexuality in the Western World in recent years is, beyond all else, a spiritual barometer of enormous significance. The brilliant public relations campaign homosexual activists have waged over the last several decades is matched in effectiveness only by that of the pro-abortion vanguard a generation ago. ******* The early titans of the abortion-rights movement determined that the way to win the hearts and minds of Americans was literally to reframe the debate away from the real issue of destroying the unborn, and instead to focus on nonsensical but powerfully compelling emotional catch-phrases like "a woman's right over her body" and "freedom of choice." In the same way, homosexual public relations and marketing professionals, like "After the Ball" authors Marshall Kirk and Hunter Madsen, charted a sophisticated, long-term marketing campaign � eschewing any references to what homosexuals actually do � that would gradually win over the hearts and minds of Americans. They have succeeded, no doubt beyond their wildest expectations. ******* Today, in every area of life � culture, entertainment, law, the news media, education, even the church � homosexual strides have been nothing less than staggering. In what was once a Judeo-Christian culture, Christians and other proponents of traditional biblical principles are routinely cast as bigots and "homophobes." Meanwhile, homosexuals, once condemned as both corrupted and corrupting, are today honored, idealized, defended as victims and celebrated as heroes and role models. ******* "Pedophile priests" ******* But then came the scandal in the Catholic Church. ******* Even gay journalists' pervasive influence in the mainstream press has not prevented the harsh truth from seeping out � that more than 90 percent of reported offenses of "pedophile priests" don't involve pedophilia at all (adult sexual contact with a pre-pubescent child), but rather, predatory homosexual men preying on young, adolescent boys. ******* In other words, the public has become aware for the first time that there is a huge problem in the Catholic Church with homosexual men preying on straight teens. This revelation has threatened to set back the gay-rights movement decades, homosexual activist leaders bemoan. ******* And yet, the Catholic Church situation is just the tip of the iceberg. ******* For the radioactive truth � threatening to contaminate the carefully cultivated public image of gay normalcy � is that the homosexual activist subculture is profoundly and obsessively fixated on youth. Despite all the dismissive denials of articulate gay spokespeople, the obsession with young males today � as it has always been since ancient times � is central to the homosexual lifestyle. ******* This does not mean, by any means, that all homosexuals dream of corrupting youth. Such is clearly not the case. ******* But the homosexual activist movement � the group that is causing homosexual propaganda to be taught in American public schools beginning in kindergarten, and that is setting up school "safe zones" to re-direct children to gay "counselors" � is, indeed, focused on America's youth. ******* This is nothing new. Before the birth of the Judeo-Christian civilization that produced the greatest abundance of freedom, progress and enlightenment in history, perversion, homosexuality and � yes � child molestation were widespread. ******* It's all about sex ******* When all is said and done, homosexuals who go after young, straight boys � whether they are priests or Boy Scout leaders or baseball coaches or whoever � know, consciously or subconsciously, that they may well be putting their young "partner" on the road to homosexuality. They are planting a seed in that fertile ground that has a good chance of taking root and producing more of their kind. ******* The other reason they are attracted to young, straight people � and this they share with heterosexual child molesters � is that there is a satisfaction for deeply corrupted people in corrupting others. In a bizarre way, it feels like completion, vindication, triumph, victory. We are with you all the way. ******* Her latest essay, here below, is one of the most incisive, thoughtful, concise, well-researched and readable pieces on this evil man I have read so far. <><> ******* Let�s talk about sex - that�s the tag line for Kinsey, the recently-released bio-pic that revolves around one man�s passion to study sex and his supposedly heroic struggle to tear down societal borders on every type of sexual _expression. ******* Okay ... so let�s talk about sex. Most specifically, let�s talk about the sex that was either not mentioned in the film or was granted only an obscure allusion. As with many biographies, the real story about Kinsey lies in what isn�t told to the audience. ******* Dr. Alfred Kinsey was a zoologist whose sexual curiosity led him from studying the morphology of gall wasps to becoming a supposed �expert� on the American sex life. To dispel what he saw as wide-spread ignorance about sexuality, he carried out face-to-face interviews with thousands of individuals to determine every minute detail of their sexual histories. His conclusions were considered the first ever scientific studies of human sexuality and were published in two controversial volumes, Sexual Behaviour in the Human Male (1948) and Sexual Behaviour in the Human Female (1953). ******* The erotic and liberating conclusions of his first book were devoured by the mainstream. In fact, many consider Kinsey to be the father of the sexual revolution that transpired in the following years and even Time magazine touted Kinsey�s name as "an acceptable synonym for sex." ******* But Kinsey�s popular support was not shared by the scientific community, which had serious criticisms about his research methodology, or lack thereof. Over the years, numerous scientists and groups such as The American Statistical Association, The US National Research Council, and The Lancet journal have exposed most of Kinsey�s research as fraudulent and empirically worthless. Some colleagues (including Paul Gebhard, who is depicted in the film) now admit that the data was improperly attained and evaluated. ******* To prove that sexual activity covered a broad range, Kinsey sought out groups that participated in specific sexual acts such as prisoners, sex offenders, pedophiles, prostitutes and homosexuals. He then wrongly extrapolated the data obtained from these specific subsets to the general population. ******* Despite these blatant errors and the fact that his theories have never been proven nor his data replicated, Kinsey�s research has had a lasting impact on the sexual mores of society. According to Hollywood, that is his legacy. ******* But Kinsey did far more than that and his true legacy is his hideous attempt to use science to validate/justify pedophilia. ******* Key claims in his 1948 book (that are not mentioned in the movie) are that all children are sexual from birth and that sexual activity in children (including babies) is natural and healthy. According to Kinsey, if it weren�t for religious oppression and draconian cultural taboos, the proper _expression of a child�s sexuality would be evident. ******* Kinsey came to this conclusion in two ways: One, by conducting unspeakable experiments on children and, two, by interviewing pedophiles on their experiences while raping children. ******* Kinsey wrote, "It�s difficult to understand why a child, except for it�s cultural conditioning, should be disturbed at having its genitalia touched... or disturbed at more specific sexual contacts." ******* That�s not scientific research -- that�s the intentional rape and sexual abuse of children. That�s illegal. And his interpretation of children�s reactions to his experiments as orgasms is remarkable on as a measure of his delusion. ******* The rest of the data came from pedophiles -- including one who is briefly shown in the movie. In other words, the data is based on the distorted perceptions of pedophiles who believed that the children they were raping actually enjoyed the activity! Gebhard says much of the data from pedophiles was taken "with a grain of salt," yet Kinsey still deceptively presented it as scientifically-obtained data. ******* The real story about Kinsey isn�t what he did, it�s how he did it. That�s an important distinction, even if it was ignored by Hollywood. Some schools dumped issues of the magazine in paper recycling bins because they found the contents rather than the subject shocking. ******* At least 400,000 copies of the gay youth magazine were distributed � partly with ministry funding � to almost every Dutch secondary school at the start of October. The initiative was designed to educate people about the problem of discrimination against gays in the education system. ******* But a large number of schools refused to accept the magazines, sent them back or threw them into the rubbish or recycling bins out of concern the publication would provoke negative reactions from students and parents. ******* Christian schools and schools with a large migrant student body took the lead in rejecting the magazine. Many claimed it was not so-much the subject matter but the way the magazine was written made it unacceptable. ******* Page 8 of the magazine featured a "tolerance test". The second question asked: your little nine-year-old brother loves musicals and the song contest, what now? ******* The reader has a choice of answers: A) order him a glitter suit for his gay wedding; B) hang Britney Spears posters in his room and he will turn out straight; or C) drop the filthy child from the highest flat complex. ******* Another question asked: Your neighbour is having sex with a goat, who do you call? A) the television programme Man Bijt Hond (this is modern culture); B) the billy goat - the female goat is cheating); or C) the integration police - goat? That is what hobby chickens are for! ******* Another question asks the reader what he or she would want to do if leader of the Netherlands. One possible answer was Prime Minister Jan Peter Balkenende, so the person would "sit in front of the window all day masturbating". ******* The magazine's publishers said some of the contents of the magazine was meant to be light-hearted, while the subject was serious. ******* Some schools claimed however that the supposed irony was totally inappropriate and would be completely missed by their students. ******* A majority of Dutch MPs are concerned about the discrimination against gay students and teachers and will discuss the issue on Tuesday. ******* The Liberal VVD, Labour PvdA, green-left GroenLinks and Democrat D66 parties have asked Education State Secretary Clemence Ross to allocate more funding to the issue. ******* Both Van der Hoeven and Ross have said they have made combating discrimination of gays and lesbians in school a priority and they want to know why the Expreszo magazines were discarded, newspaper Algemeen Dagblad reported. ******* The government ministers have placed the responsibility on the schools themselves. But they are also demanding that the schools explain whether they are rejecting the idea of showing homosexuality in a better light or are opposed to the approach used in the magazine. ******* Besturenraad, the organisation of Christian education, has accused the government of acting "extremely carelessly" in assisting with the distribution of the magazine. ******* It said the way in which it was done was "unbelievably dumb", claiming the magazine arrived unannounced with normal post, news agency ANP reported Monday. ******* But magazine Editor-in-Chief Merijn Henfling had said on Saturday that "it appears again that there are still many schools where students are better off not saying they are gay", news agency Novum reported. ******* Henfling is keen to learn from schools how they wish to tackle the intolerance of young gays and lesbians. He said this discussion could be prompted by placing the Expreszo magazine in school canteens. ******* The magazine includes interviews with celebrities about their image of homosexuality, a photo page depicting gay couples kissing and a tolerance test. Christmas is a glad event even for those of us not of Christian faith. And yet there is a hint of sadness in all these nativity scenes: For in our day-to-day secular context, nativity is becoming a rarer and rarer event. ******* Canada's birth rate now hovers at about 1.5 per woman. For people interested in the science of population, that simple statistic portends catastrophe. But statistics don't mean much to most people. Let's look at the raw numbers instead. ******* In 1959, the peak year of the Baby Boom, almost 480,000 children were born in Canada--a country of about 17 million people. With rare exceptions, the number of births has been declining ever since. In 2002, there were only 328,000 children born to the 31 million people of Canada. ******* Canada's population continues to rise of course, and will continue to rise for some time to come. Because Canada's population is so much bigger now than it was when today's elderly were born, births still exceed deaths by a substantial margin. But the number of deaths is increasing even as the number of births drops. Twelve years from now, the first of the Baby Boomers will turn 70, and after that the number of deaths will begin to increase rapidly. ******* At some point not too far into the next century, the two lines will cross, and the population of Canada will begin to shrink. ******* Many people imagine that immigration can solve the problem. Canada now runs one of the most open immigration policies on Earth. Between 1991 and 2001, 1.8 million immigrants arrived in Canada. Immigration brought Canada more than half its population growth over the decade of the 1990s. Some demographers believe that if Canada increased its immigration intake to more than two million per decade, the population could be held stable indefinitely. ******* But immigration is an imperfect way to solve the demographic problem. ******* The countries from which Canada's migrants have recently tended to come are themselves facing population decline. China's birthrate for example is lower than that of the United States. The decline is steepest among the most educated elements of the population--the people whom Canada wants most to attract. ******* Think of things from the point of view of a talented young Chinese who turns 25 in the year 2030. By then, China could well be the world's biggest economy, bigger even than the United States. Against that, Canada will be offering him an alien language, a terrible climate--and crushing taxes to support the retirement and health care of a lot of elderly people to whom he has no relationship. He might well decide he's better off staying home. ******* And even if he does decide to come, massive immigration in an era of negative birthrates will present challenges for which the country has not prepared. Canada accepted a lot of immigrants in the 1950s and 1960s. But back then, immigration was a minority experience--there was a majority culture to which immigrants could and (it was expected) should assimilate. ******* But in the 2020s and 2030s, immigration will increasingly become the majority experience among Canada's active population. The old will find themselves living among, being cared for by and being supported by taxes paid by people with whom they may feel very little in common. The Baby Boomers may find themselves growing old in a country in which they feel alien and superfluous. ******* Immigration is to natural population growth as wine is to food: enriching as a supplement; dangerous as a substitute. ******* So what to do? ******* The very first step is for Canadians to acknowledge that they have a problem on their hands, and for politicians to acknowledge that the birthrate and family formation are important, even supreme, concerns for policymakers. ******* Then Canadians must rigorously focus on figuring out what helps and what hurts. For example: Canadian politicians have invested billions--and are getting ready to invest billions more--in national daycare systems. Daycare is supposed to ease the burden on working mothers and could theoretically be seen as a pro-natal policy. But does it work? ******* The nations of Europe provide generous daycare benefits. Yet according to a fascinating article in the current issue of The Public Interest, "What Do Women Want" by Neil Gilbert of the University of California, the consequences of these benefits have been catastrophic: "This spending had an inverse correlation with fertility rates and showed a similar relation to marriage rates." Or, in plain English: the more a country spends to support families and children, the fewer children and families it gets. ******* Why? To pay for the taxes to pay for the daycare, more and more families need two full-time workers. Women who are full-time workers cannot easily manage two or more children. So the daycare invented to help families ends up squelching them instead. ******* This vicious cycle explains why the United States, which offers fewer family benefits than Europe or Canada, should have a dramatically higher birthrate, 2.1, than either. America's native-born non-Hispanic whites have a birthrate of 1.9. And that rate actually rose in the 1990s, while others' fell. ******* As the American example suggests, countries concerned about birth rates need a new approach. The study, "Sexual behaviour: related adverse health burden in the United States," is unique because it measures the health ramifications of sexual conduct by counting not only death and diseases but by examining other adverse health affects related to sex. ******* Using data from 1998, the study found that 7.5 percent of Americans suffered a negative health incident resulting from sexual activity and that 1.3 percent of all deaths in America can be attributed to sexual behavior. ******* The study notes that previous efforts to measure the health effects of sexual activity did not go far enough and failed to take into consideration all the ways in which quality of life can be diminished by promiscuity. According to the report, "Measuring adverse outcomes of reproduction or sexual behaviour by counting deaths or diseases alone is inadequate for a proper understanding of the dimensions of the issue. Many such adverse outcomes occur at a young age leading to a large component of lifespan lived with disability. Many deaths from such adverse outcomes occur at a young age and such loss of productive life is not captured by mortality statistics." ******* Among the illnesses brought on by sexual behavior that are lethal for men, HIV is far and away the largest killer. There were 36,000 incidences of the virus in 1998 and 18,221 deaths accounting for 93 percent of all deaths of men from sexual behavior. For women, 8,200 contracted HIV and 4,234 died of it making it second to cervical cancer, which took the lives of 4,921 women, as the biggest killer of women. ******* The study also calculated the Disability Adjusted Life Years (DALY) cost for illnesses brought on by sexual behavior. DALY is a number that combines into a single measurement the loss of healthy years of life from an illness and the years of life cut short by premature death from an illness. While total deaths caused by sexual behavior for both men and women were 29,782, the total cost in Disability Adjusted Life Years was more than 2 million. The study noted that its data "included more unsafe sex related conditions than were considered in previous analyses for the United States" including "hepatitis, infertility," damage to men's reproductive capabilities, "maternal conditions, and abortions." ******* Though it was not listed among the study's prominent findings, women's fertility takes a huge hit. There were 598,000 annual incidences of infertility resulting from sexual behavior leading to a cost in Disability Adjusted Life Years of 843,747. In fact, infertility produced the highest DALY cost of any of the negative health effects of sexually activity. ******* Beyond the toll of HIV - which had a DALY cost for men of 557,021 - men were hit especially hard by the Hepatitis B virus. "We live in the midst of an epidemic of diseases, bacteria and viruses which are making their way up to the beautiful and tender reproductive tracts of our children and strangling them towards infertility and cancer and threatening their very lives. ******* "What I have seen in my beautiful quiet and suburban northern Michigan practice is occurring nationwide, and when I turned to the medical literature two years ago to see if what I was experiencing was unique I found that the Center for Disease Control talks about the hidden epidemic of 15 million Americans getting a new sexually transmitted disease every year and two thirds of them being in people under 25, my patients, your children, the kids on your kids� basketball teams and soccer teams and ballet recitals." ### According to the New England Journal of Medicine, one in five Americans 12 years and older test positive for genital herpes. ### Forty-six percent of young teen-age girls after just one episode of intercourse contracts human papilloma virus (HPV), and 14 percent of them will go on to develop signs of cervical cancer, and more women�s lives are given over to cervical cancer every year than to HIV and AIDS. ******* This, she warns "is not a time for mothers and fathers and doctors and teachers and politicians to be silent about the sanctity of the life of our teen-agers." ******* What has been our answer to this out-of-control scourge, she asked. Condoms. "We have taught 14, 13, 12 year-old kids to put condoms on bananas. We have done this for 15 or 20 years." ******* In 1960 there were just two sexually transmitted diseases, syphilis and gonorrhea. After 20 years of teaching our kids how to use condoms, we now boast 30 or more sexually transmitted diseases among 12 to 18 year-old children. Condoms have failed as an answer. ******* "A little over a year ago the National Institutes for Health reviewed all the best condom literature available in the world. They found that condoms, if used 100 percent of the time correctly, may reduce the risk of HIV by 87 percent in men and women, and it may reduce the risk of gonorrhea in men, but for all of the other sexually transmitted diseases which infect beautiful heterosexual children across the country there is insufficient evidence that condoms work at all. ******* "Yet we are still teaching condoms and more condoms in our schools. As a physician I consider it malpractice to hand one of my patients a condom and tell them that they will be safe when the NIH doesn�t say so. ******* "We have the answer. It is abstinence education. Many opponents of abstinence say it doesn�t work - it does work � all the time. The kids are willing to learn it. Are we willing to teach it?" ******* Sex among girls is leading to an epidemic of cancer, she revealed. "The 14 or 15 year old girl�s cervix cannot handle bacteria and viruses. They flourish and turn into cancer much more quickly than in a 25 year old." ******* All of this promiscuous sexual activity among youngsters is having another deadly effect: serious depression and sometimes suicide. ******* "We are living in an epidemic of depression, where one out of three American teen-agers have thought of killing themselves, much of this related to sexual activity. ******* "Are we willing to tell teen-agers that sexual health trumps sexual freedom?" she asked, adding that we�d better be. ********************************************************************************************************************
