Rods and cones are photoreceptor cells in the retina. Rods are only capable of detecting values; that is, they see in black and white. Cones, however, only respond to the component colors of visible light: red, blue and green. There are far fewer cones in the retina than rods. Together, rods and cones send the signals to the brain which are interpreted to give us vision.

However, thanks to the same variations that give us each unique body types, skin pigmentations and eye-colors, not only do we each see uniquely, we also think quite differently about what we see.
