Scout II Restoration
So its almost done. Keep checking back, I have LOTS to keep fixing. But Phase One is done. The basic truck. I still have to paint the top, wire the beast and more. But hey, its world's better than it was around Thanksgiving. Lots can happen in 3 months time with enough scrap parts, some spray cans of paint and a few welding rods.
As you can see, my father's first scout is a bit of a "go anywhere" machine. The funny thing is, even with his 38 inch TSLs, my Scout has about the same lift he does. Maybe its because he has everything short of a lathe in there for tools. I think he enjoyed making one "pretty" this time around. He is already talking about our next project vehicle, the 1971 CJ-5 we were going to work on before this Scout came along.
Mark "Full Size Jeeps Rule" Grods was impressed enough with the paint job and body work, that he even got into the act on his full size Wagoneer.
I promise, I've been working on it. Since the last entry, I've added a dual battery system (although the starter is dragging, grrrrr) and have improved the ignition system with an HEI distributor "donated" from an unknown GM six cylinder engine out at Steve's Automotive. Construction began on a spare parts/carryall box in the rear of the Scout, pics are forthcoming.
Well I have been informed by some people, that I have been "forgetting" them in the story of this build up. "I saw your page, but I didn't see my name! Guess you didn't need that part as bad as you said!" or something to that effect. Spasiba to David Ray, (Nice doors on my old Jeep BTW David) who provided EXECELLENT seats and puts up with my "WHAT! You don't have my parts in stock!" ranting and raving, along with Donny.

Its been roughly two months since I last updated the Scout. I'm happy to report that the dragging starter was replaced, the original was just plain ass shot. I started the prep wiring for the all new wiring needed. The headlights work thanks to a new dimmer switch.
The wierdest thing I've managed to do, was manage to fit a Quadrajet on the two bbl intake manifold, yes, you read right. A 4 bbl carb on a two bbl intake, and I've not spent a dime on the conversion, yet. Its mounted, but I still have the choke, and throttle cable to route and fix. We also have added a permanent fuel tank in the rear, it is a replacement stock 19 gallon tank, and leaks when filled, but other than that, its fine. I've designed the rear bumper, just have to cut and weld it together now. And soon, I will hopefully have a 2.5 inch custom exhaust for it. More Pics coming soon!
