Scout II Restoration
Well, it has moved (spinning both rear tires, which thrilled me. Means I don't have to spend $$$ for a rear locker, just something for the front Dana) and made a lap of the hacienda. A word about lockers, for those that don't know what I'm talking about think about your car. When you get stuck, only one wheel spins. Wouldn't it be nice if BOTH wheels had traction? Thats where a locker comes in, you engage the lock, and BOTH wheels are receiving power, not one like a limited slip. Right now the front axle isn't locked so eventually I'll need to get a front locker.
It sports a top from a 76 Scout II, and since the bed was torched out, we have placed a semi-permanant sheet of 5/8" plywood in the rear, until funds become available for a new tub rear end. It is bolted to and sealed on the original metal bed and frame, so as to keep out the noxious fumes. A new driver's side floor has been cut and placed, soon to be followed with a passenger side panel.
Well we spent one whole weekend tying up little things that were temp fixes to get it going, but needed full repair. A new choke, throttle cable (the other collapsed) another donor rear lift gate was sanded primed and put in place. The rear end got two cans of undercoating, the air cleaner arrived ($50) and put in place with a new custom holding bracket (ours was missing from the carb). We also scrounged up parts from other "previously loved" scouts that we have stashed, (Remember we were gonna part this one out?) and found a WHOLE, uncracked windshield.
I also started the sanding priming and painting this weekend, well I did a little last week, but this week saw big results. My father was so impressed with some of the results, that he even got out BONDO for a 4x4! He NEVER does this, and even got into the need to sand and prime each panel.
