Scout II restoration
       Engine, she no
        go "voom voom"

So with the basics taken care of, Dr. Crankenstien, the "Grease God" took over the engine compartment. Finding the 258 cu in engine NOT frozen, and good oil in the crank case, he thought it possible to revive the current engine. Many prayers were said and many oaths were proclaimed. ("I'm gonna burn this #%^$&# to the #^%&% ground and be done with it!") My father sure has strange ways  to show his relaxation in his hobbie, but I'm not much better, good thing we are both very patient men.
We had the carb rebuilt, a new coil and points were needed and the starter had to be rebuilt. The fuel pump was shot so that was replaced along with plugs and wires.
Anyway, the engine DOES turn, the alternator DOES charge, and he got it to acheive self-sustaining rotation. As usual Bubba had wrapped the accelerator cable AROUND the clutch, thus making the thin-idiot pedal VERY hard to depress. So we got that working and it actually moved under its own power!
Once he got it in running order, it was time for me, the Wire God, to do my majik on the engine compartment. Having an ultimate goal of a fireproof engine compartment, I have a LOT of work to do, and if you look real close at the pics, you can see the temp gauge wire, hanging right in front of the manifold, and behind the radiator hose. First I had to anti-Bubba the wiring. You know Bubba, that guy who is "good with them 'lectrical things" and likes to rewire your vehicle however he sees fit, usually with a LARGE amount of black electrical tape and excessive wires. Well after I removed 5 wires and 2 miles of tape, I got the engine down to what it needed to function. I went in to the dash, and luck be with me, the original glass fuse panel was there, and had power. BUT the headlights worked, with no fuse in place. I shook my head at Bubba's creativeness.
As you can see on the right, the interior was well, kinda SHOT. This is good and bad. The bad is that its SHOT, I have to start from scratch. The Good is that since I have to start from scratch, I can do pretty much whatever the hell I want to it. Again, keeping that this is a semi-restoration, I want to keep any International guages I can, that work. A stereo to wake the comatose will be a requirement, as will two way communication. I also will have highback bucket seats, and I'm retaining the rear bench seat to hold small people who want to go 4-wheeling with daddy. I've elected to go with all new wiring of the entire system, as International is confusing as hell with that "all green wire"
nonsence. I notified my father that the only colors he need concern himself with were Red (constant hot), Yellow (key switched hot) and Black (ground). Every other color
he sees is system related.
