| Perseus by Nathan Gates Prologue.Narration: Clark Duncan Governor of Maine was a superstious man. He lived in Augusta with his only daughter Dana. He was so superstious that he went to a psychic to tell his future. He asked the psychic if he would have any boys. The psychic said no and that his grandson would kill him. He went home, but did not want to kill his daughter out of fear of the gods. So he locked her in the basement of his house. One night Zeus came down as a golden rain and enpregnated Dana. She named her son Peter Governer Duncan didn't belive her story that it was Zeus's child, but he did not kill Peter, again out of fear. Instead he put them both on a raft and sent them off to sea. They sailed until they reached Dryfus, a small island somewhere between Maine and Greenland. They were saved by a fisherman named Dick Frankson in Asheville. Mayor Rudy Frankson is his brother. Mayor Frankson is in lovr with Dana, but he does not want to take care of Peter. So, when Peter has no gift to offer them for their wedding, Mayor Frankson suggests that he goes off to the Gorgon cult and kill the most vunerable member, Medusa. Peter accepts and goes off. Scene 1 (Asheville a town in Dryfus, a little island in the Atlantic somewhere between Maine and Greenland. Peter is walking aimlessly. Music is playing.) Scene 2 (Asheville.) Herman: Hello Peter. Peter: How do know my name? Herman: That's not important. So, I understand that you are going off to kill Medusa? Peter: That's right. Herman: Are you sure you're ready to take on such a task? Peter: I will do my best. Herman: Well your best might not be good enough. Here, take this.(Gives his small package that has bullets in it.) Peter: Bullets? I don't think I need more bullets. Herman:These are special bullets. Designed to pierce even the thickest of body armor, or the skin of a Gorgon. Peter: You're sure it will work? Herman: Yes I am. Peter: Well, if you know so much about the Gorgons, where can I find them? Herman: Wait one second.(He pulls out a napkin and writes something on it.) Here are the directions. Peter:Thanks. Herman: No problem. Peter: Wait. Who are you? Herman: I am Herman, the eternal messenger.(Herman exits.) Scene 3(Asheville.) Merchant: Excuse me, sir. Can I interest you in a watch, a wallet, a pair of glasses perhaps. Peter: To complete the task at hand I would need more than just a watch and glasses. Merchant: Ahh. Then you will make use of this.(Pulls out wallet.) Peter: A wallet? Merchant: Not just any wallet, this wallet has an infinite amount of space. Peter: Right. Merchant: Put your hand in the wallet. (Peter puts his hand in the wallet.) Peter: Whoa. This will be helpful on my way to Medusa. Merchant: (gasps) You're looking for Medusa? Peter: Yes. Merchant: Then you'll need more than a wallet. (He pulls out a hat and a pair of shoes.)Here. The hat will make you invisible, and the shoes will give you the ability to fly. Peter: Thank you. But what will this all cost? Merchant: No charge. If you are going against Medusa you might not come back to repay me. So, if you return you can pay me then. Peter: Thank you. (Peter exits.) Scene 4 (Outside Asheville. Agatha appears) Agatha: Hello Peter. I am Agatha. Peter: Hello. Agatha: (She gives him a compact mirror.) Look into this when you attack Medusa. You will be able to avoid her deadly power with it. Peter: What deadly power? Agatha: If you look at her, she will turn you into stone. Peter: I wonder why no one told me that before.(Agatha Disappears) Scene 5 (The Gorgons lair. Peter is flying until he lands. He enters the Gorgons lair. They are asleep. He finds Medusa, pulls out his gun, and shoots her. He pulls out a digital camera and takes pictures. The gun shots wake up the other two Gorgons. He quickly puts on the hat and becomes invisible. He escapes undetected.) Peter: The deed is done.(Freeze frame) Narrator: Peter returned back to Asheville. On his way he had shot at theif and accidently killed Governer Duncan of Maine, his grandfather. The psychic's prophesy had come true. With knowadge of Peter's return Mayor Frankson fled the island in fear of Peter. When Peter returned to Asheville they elected Dick Frankson as the mayor. And they all lived in peace and harmony. Sorta. (title: The End?) |
