| 11 SEPTEMBER 2001 Since this is a Futurama site, I'm going to write about what happened to Futurama on C4 on this day. The attacks happened on a Tuesday. It also left C4 with a difficult decision � what to do with Futurama, which was to be on at 18:00, just four hours after the attacks on New York and Washington. Of course it was a very trivial decision compared to what was going on at that moment, but they needed to choose an appropriate enough episode for that sensitive time � there couldn�t be many references to New York (apart from the fact that the show is set there), war, or anything else that might cause offence. The episode shown was a repeat of I, Roommate, which, although it involves the characters going out of their own environments a lot, didn�t have any of the references mentioned before (although at one point Bender is dreaming about "killing all humans", which it could be argued was related, but otherwise they were pretty responsible with their choice of episode). It isn't one of the funniest episodes either (well, they're all funny, but this one was more subtle, I mean) ...here, this was almost an advantage. On 11 September, C4 had been supposed to show The Deep South and Mother's Day, but instead showed I, Roommate at 18.00 followed by an episode of Friends at 18.30. ------------------------ FUTURAMA CUTS - 11.09.01 I, ROOMMATE - C4 REPEAT 11.09.01, 18:00 (actually 3rd episode of season 1) THE ONE WHERE Fry is asked to move out of his workplace - PX's base - so moves in with Bender - it seems a bit cramped, although Bender points out that they only take up half of the 3 cubic metres of space. But Fry still wants to move away, and they start house-hunting. DEFINITE CUTS For some reason, the caption at the start of the episode was replaced - and it wasn't offensive at all! Original caption: 'As seen on TV' C4 showed no caption (just 'Futurama') The following Tuesday, 18 September, C4 again showed a repeat. Originally The Problem With Popplers and Anthology of Interest I had been scheduled to show on this day as a season finale, but instead weren't shown. ------------------------ FUTURAMA CUTS - 18.09.01 THE SERIES HAS LANDED - C4 REPEAT 18.09.01, 18:00 (actually 2nd episode of season 1) THE ONE WHERE In the second episode ever made, PX are asked to make a delivery to the moon, which Fry is excited about, but it turns out the moon is 10 seconds from Earth, and is now a big theme park ('The Happiest Place Orbiting Earth'). But that doesn't mean he can't get himself and Leela into a massively dangerous situation... NO CUTS NOTICED ------------------------ THE SERIES HAS ENDED? And so, Futurama season 2 on C4 came to an end with four episodes still not shown. The series wasn�t banned or anything, it had just been planned that 18.09.01 would be the last episode of the series, and the unseen episodes had to be shown at a later date. And they were!... |
