Chapter 10
You weren't supposed to wish that. Jiranan glared at Yui in the mirror. Now you're stuck in the mirror because I'm not in Ayuttaya to give you back your body. What came over you to suddenly want to come back?
Yui wept as she would usually do. She couldn't answer because there was no answer to such rash behavior and wishing.
Stop crying, girl! You're annoying me. That's the reason why I won't go back. I've gotten this far to have it all go down the drain if you return. My gosh, I can't believe I used to be you.
I'm sorry.
For yourself? Look, where have you been this whole time anyways if you weren't in Ayuttaya?
I don't know. Some carpenter's room. I think he's the man whose ancestors built the mirror. He told me that everything he makes comes to life. Every generation, there is one who can do so. When I was there, I found different papers and deeds of items sold. And I saw one with my family's name.
Ah, the master. Where else would you go? Go to rest, Yui. I'll inform you more of what happens later. Oh, forgot to tell you that P'Ja will be getting engaged soon. They are supposed to come tomorrow to talk with mom and dad. It's quick, but mother wants it that way because she's afraid that something will happen again.
Yui nodded and disappeared into the darkness of the mirror.

Andrew paced the workshop, the dust blowing off the ground in each stomp he made. It had been several days now and Yui had not returned. When he called for her, she didn't show up. When he tried to sleep, he could not dream of her. It was as if his power to create thing had suddenly depleted and nothing came to life anymore.
Frustrated, he tried to go out. However, going out had proved a big disappointment. Walking past one of the restaurant, he saw Jiranan having dinner with some man. And from the looks of it, she was enjoying his company. Unexpected jealousy rolled over him like a tidal wave and all thoughts of Yui disappeared. Entering the restaurant, he had a waiter lead him towards a table not too far off from her. He sat facing her.
In that same moment, he sat down, she saw him. The smile she had worn now grew fake as if she kept it pasted on. It was a challenge.
Ordering a champagne for himself and another for Jiranan, he lifted the glass. She raised her eyebrows.
"Miss Jiranan, is he bothering you?" The man who sat with her asked.
"She did not take her eyes off of Andrew. "No. He's just an acquaintance. Excuse me." The mere protest from the man did not register in Jiranan when she was already walking away to stand at Andrew's table.
"Enjoying dinner?" There was a cold rawness in his voice.
"Fabulously." Jiranan pulled out a chair and sat down. "And you?"
Putting down the glass, he stared at her. His tone grew cold and low. "Terribly. You are making me terribly angry."
"Me?"
For a second, Yui's face pasted on Jiranan and he had to pause and stare. "You look just like..."
When Jiranan cocked her eyebrow, the image of Yui disappeared.
"Like whom? Don't tell me I'm like your girlfriend. I would be harshly offended."
Andrew shook his head and looked at her seriously. "Why is it that you and Pakjira seem to hate each other? I don't see how it is possible."
"Not my fault. She shouldn't have insulted and embarrassed me at the governor's ball. And she was the one who vowed to hurt me when I tried to apologize."
A slow recognition appeared over his face. "You're the girl who spilled the drink on her?"
"You were there?" Pulling back slightly, she tried to recall his face. Then she heard his voice once more entering...have you seen the Manojem sisters...and slowly, anger formed. "You're the one who asked about me. Why?"
Shaking his head, he only smiled. "Curiosity. Your father is a potential partnership for my father. He thought it would be good for me to get to know your family."
Insulted, Jiranan got up and glared at him. "I'm glad to have known that."
"Wait." His hand caught her wrist and held her still. "It doesn't mean I still think of you in that way. I thought we could be friends...or...."
"Nothing. You and I can never be friends." Angrily, she jerked her hand away. "But there is one thing we can be. I will make you love me and Pakjira will be the loser. And then I will dump you. That is the only thing you and I can ever have together. So guard yourself. I'm prepared to play this game and tell your girlfriend that I'm not planning to lose."
