Chapter 23 --- Goodbye
"What? Damn you, Hugo. Where is Benz? I can�t believe her! I can�t believe she could have the heart to do this.� Tik was burning up.
Noi, Ken, and Tik were in the police station, while Hugo was confessing to his crime. Benz was nowhere to be found after the party. She moved out of her old place and quit her job the next day. Benz knew she was going to get busted because Hugo didn�t have the guts to continue the lie. As for Hugo, he was in big trouble with the police for his attempt to kidnap Kat. But once again, his loving wife Anna saved him and his reputation again.
Once the problems in the police station are somewhat settled, Tik, Ken and Noi went out for lunch.
Tik apologized to Ken for hitting him and not listening to him the night of the party. Of course, Ken forgave Tik; after all, he was jealous and drunk.
Tik announced to both Ken and Noi that Kat and him were getting married next week. Noi and Ken were shocked, it was too soon. But they were happy for both of them.
Once they were done eating, Tik went to the office and finished with some work and went straight to Kat�s place.
When he knocked on her door, no one answered. He stood waiting for hours until he told the manager to open the door for him.
When he went in, the place was empty. All of Kat�s clothes and things were gone. There was a note left for Tik in the bedroom. He was mad and at the same time sad that she�d left him when he told her not to.
He opened the letter she�d written:
Dear Khun Tik,
By the time you get this letter, I will have already left this place. I can�t tell you where I am heading, but it is somewhere you cannot find me. I can�t marry you, because I know you don�t love me. I know you still love Khun Benz and only used me to get her back. And if I go away, you guys can be happy with each other.
I am tired of your games and your challenges. You already won! I have nothing else to give you, so it doesn�t matter if I am with you or not. I don�t want to marry someone that doesn�t love me. It will only hurt me if I stay with someone I love but doesn�t love me back.
Please take care of my family. I don�t know if I will contact them or not, but as of right now, I don�t have the guts to do so.
Before I end this letter, I want to tell you how much I hate you for making my life this way and the fact that I have to run away from my problems.
But I also want to thank you for always being there for me when I needed you. Thank you for giving me your arms and chest when I was crying over Hugo. Thank you for helping my family with their debt, although I don�t really know the real amount. And thank you, for always tricking me into signing those damn contracts that got me stuck with someone like you.
I don�t know why, but every time I say I hate you, I want to change it to something else. But it is too late for that. You won the game, and I lost my pride.
I can�t tell you how much it hurts me, but please don�t look for me. I may be in another city, another state, or another country. Please let me be free. I never once did anything to hurt you. I don�t know why you had to come into my life and change everything, even my heart.
Once again, I hate you and thank you.

"Dammit, Kat. Why did you do this? Why?� Tik was pissed off but tears were falling down his cheeks. He read the letter over and over, and said to himself, �Kat, I know you don�t hate me. I know you don�t. You left me because you were scared you would fall in love with me. Damn you, Kat. I don�t love Benz� I� I� I Love You� Shit, I should have told you that before I left to the police station. Shit!� Tik was blaming himself for not confessing his love. Tik was drinking in the bar by himself. Both Ken and Noi went to get him and tried to drag him home. "Ken, she left me� She left me�� Tik said drunkenly as Ken was dragging him to his car. Tik let Ken and Noi read the letter Kat wrote. "Tik, I don�t think you should just sit around and be like this. I think you should look for her,� said Ken. "Yeah, look at this letter. �It will only hurt me if I stay with someone I love but doesn�t love me back.�� Noi read it out loud for Tik to hear and continued, �Tik, she loves you and doesn�t know if you love her too. She got the wrong idea about you and Benz.� Noi was trying to convince Tik to search for Kat. "Read the last part, you guys. She wants to be FREE. She said I won the game!!� Tik was following Kat�s direction in the letter. Ken was driving while Noi was trying to talk to Tik, who was in his own little drunken world, mumbling words of frustration. "Tik, yo man. When did you ever listen to Kat? You are acting the same way as you did when you lost Benz,� Ken reminded him. He continued, �You lost Benz because she wanted money and she got married to another guy. As for Kat, she left you because she doesn�t know how you feel, and she is not with another guy. You have a chance, man!� "Kat was hurt from Hugo, so it is hard for her to have feelings for someone else. You have to find her and tell her how you feel, Khun Tik,� said Noi. Tik was still mumbling things out. �Kat, you don�t love me. You left me. You have someone else. I didn�t mean to hurt you, Kat� Kat�� He was too drunk to even try to talk to Ken and Noi. As soon as they got him home, he passed out. The next morning, Tik woke up with a hang over. He felt heart broken like when Benz left him. He got up and reread the letter that Kat left him. As he was reading the letter, he got some alcohol and started to drink early in the morning. Dang and Joy got worried about their boss, so they called Khun Ken to come take care of him. Ken went to Tik�s house right away after the phone call. "Hey Tik, come on. Not this again, not in the morning. Remember what I said last night?� "No,� Tik answered. "You have to find Kat! She just needs you to tell her how you feel,� Ken repeated the things he�d told Tik last night. Unfortunately, Tik didn�t listen because he was too drunk to do so. "No, remember when I expressed how I felt for Benz? She still left me. No more of that crap!� Tik remembered the old scars that seemed to be resurfacing. "Damn you, Tik. When did you ever start giving up without a fight? Ok, I told you this last night, but your ass was too drunk to listen. But I am about to repeat this again. You have a chance with Kat. From this letter, it seems like she doesn�t hate you even though she said she does. Look at it; she wants to change the word �hate� to something else. It got to be the word �love�. Kat left you not for someone else, like Benz did. Kat left you because she got the wrong idea that you still wanted Benz in your life and you were using her to get Benz back. And by her leaving, you and Benz could be happy with each other.� Ken was trying his best to explain to Tik. "That�s Bull Shit, man,� Tik denied it. "Tik, come on. Why did Kat leave? Not because she wants me. I only got close to her because I wanted to get to know Noi, that�s all. Oh yeah, and of course I wanted to make you jealous,� Ken added that in. "Shut up, Ken. And, yea, it did piss me off to see you guys together,� Tik took another shot and admitted he was jealous of Ken and Kat together. "And I surely know Kat did not leave you because of Hugo. He is still married to Khun Anna. Although Hugo is rich once again, I think he and Khun Anna need each other. And I know they won�t get a divorce,� Ken explained. "So what about it?� Tik asked. "Tik, just like I said before, she left because she loves you and wants you to be happy with Khun Benz. But she doesn�t know how you feel. Man, all I see is you being aggressive with her and always putting her down. Of course she is going feel like you only want to use her in bed and make Benz jealous,� Ken was blaming Tik for his actions. "Shut up, Ken. It is hard for me to tell a girl I love them or how I feel in words. I did that once and I almost died when Benz left me. I can only show her how I feel by trying to be there for her,� Tik explained his actions. "But sometimes you just have to say it again, and that�s risky, Tik. Your actions have only shown Kat she is a tool and needed to be used. I think you have to tell her how you feel, because if you don�t take that risk, you will lose the one person who is so important to you. Someone like Kat will only come to you once in a lifetime,� Ken tried to stop Tik from drinking and took the alcohol away from him. �Ken, what should I do? I can�t think right!� Tik felt lost. "How about this? You stop drinking and rest. Noi and I will start searching and calling places. When you wake up and have energy, then you can help us search for Kat,� Ken patted him on the back, being his good friend through the ups and downs. -------------------------------------------------- Ken and Noi were calling every transportation station in Thailand for Kat�s name. But her name was nowhere to be found. "Could she be using someone else�s name?� Noi asked Ken. 'I don�t think so. Not with the short period of time she�s had and not being a citizen in this country. That�s the scary part; she doesn�t know her away around here yet,� Ken answered. "Ummm� Where could she have gone?� Noi wondered around Tik�s house, thinking of places. "I don�t think she wants us to find her,� Tik answered as he was walking down the stairs. "Khun Tik, when did you wake up?� Noi asked. "Not too long ago. I thought I got enough rest, so I figured I�d come and help search for Kat. But when I think about it, if she really cares, she wouldn�t have done this,� Tik reiterated his view. "Don�t say that, Tik! It�s only been 2 days since she�s been gone. She couldn�t have gone far. I think she is still in Thailand, because there was no one named Kathaleeya on the planes leaving Thailand,� Ken said. *Sigh*� �So you guys called every transportation place in Thailand?� asked Tik. "Yeah, I think she must have gone by a Taxi or something. So that means she is not that far from us,� Noi told him, trying to keep him thinking positively because Tik looked like he was going to give up without even trying. "OK, I will call for more. And should I call her parents to let them know?� Tik asked. "NO!� Ken and Noi exclaimed in unison. "Not yet, I think we should at least try to find her before the wedding. You set the date for the wedding already, right? So don�t give up until that day comes,� Noi motivated him. As Tik was ready to call for more places, the house phone rang. "Hello, this is the SaPone residence.� "Umm� Hello? Can I speak to umm� Tik Sa..Pone, please?� "Umm, this is him. May I ask who is calling?� asked Tik with a curious face because it was an unfamiliar voice. "Oh, hi Mr. SaPone. My name is Marie.� Marie was calling from the Philippines. "Oh, hello Marie. Oh wow, how did you get my number?� Tik was surprised. "I called Kat�s parents in America and asked them some questions about you and your information in Thailand,� Marie told him. "Umm�Why would you do that? Is there any particular reason?� Tik was curious. "Well, umm� I know where Kat is because she called me earlier!� said Marie.
