| Tiffany stood next to her best friend Mallory on the blue and gold cheer block facing the stands filled with all of her peers. She hiked up her cheer skirt and flipped her blonde ponytail. Tiffany glanced over at Mallory and nodded. The two girls leaned into the microphone and began their chant. "BLUE AND GOLD, GO, BLUE AND WHITE, FIGHT...BLUE AND GOLD ARE GONNA WIN TONIGHT!!!" They both turned away from the eager crowd to watch the opening kickoff. Another football season had begun. * * * "Hey guys!" Mallory exclaimed perkily scooting into the booth next to Zac. She ran her hand through his haggy blonde hair and leaned in for a kiss, "Great game babe." She looked across the table at Taylor and Tiffany. "Where's Jamie and Cooper?" Taylor asked suddenly realizing they had disappeared again. "We're here! Sorry we're late, dumbass ran out of gas, then we had to pull over to celebrate the victory!" Jamie giggled sitting herself down next to Cooper, who had a smile across his face. The boys dove into the large pizza. A tall lanky boy approached the table hesitantly. "Uh...hey we're having this Halloween party...a costume party." The anonymous guy stuttered nervously. "You're stepping on my foot." Tiffany shot out at him bluntly and pushed him away. She rolled her eyes, "Ugh, clumsy dork." She began laughing at him and Jamie joined in. "Tiff, Jamie stop being bitches." Mallory motioned him back toward the table. "Where is this at?" Zac asked with his mouth full of pizza. "The old Johnson house, the abandoned one on Steiner." He turned and walked away again glaring towards the table. "Wow! How fun, a costume party!!! Can we go?" Jamie exclaimed enthusiastically. All three boys looked at each other. "Come on..." Mallory begged, "I'll make it worth it." She said leading Zac's hand to her thigh and kissing him again. Everyone rolled their eyes. "I'm in I guess." *** *** *** Mallory's tires squealed as she rolled into the parking lot at J.F. Parks High School Monday morning. She rushed to grab her purse and walked as fast as she could through the car-scattered parking lot. She walked into her classroom and all eyes looked up at her. "Ah...Miss Bastian, I'm so glad you've decided to join us today, we haven't seen you in what? Three days? And only twenty minutes late." Mr. Nolan's noble voice came out from behind his desk. "Well, I'm feeling much better now. I've been sick with...with the cold," Mallory tried to explain herself confidently, "and on the way to school this morning my car broke down. I had to wait for my brother to come pick me up." She tried reminding him that her brother was one of his all time favorite students. "Really. I find it very hard to believe that a brand new BMW would just break down so suddenly." Before Mallory could get in a word, he added, "Please just sit down and refrain from disrupting my class any more." She plopped herself down into an open seat. "Way to start the day Mal." She mumbled to herself. |
