I tried keeping my eye out for a decent weapon, but things smoothed out a lot when he was given Bonesnap. This was pretty much the weapon he used through almost until Patriarch!
He skills are pretty much cookie cutter werewolf guide, and he died twice along the way, rather unfortunate. Later in his life, I began experimenting with other weapons, Minotaur, Gavel of Pain, etc. When he was having serious difficulty with PI in Act V, he was given Baranar's Star and Tiamat's Rebuke. I usually forgot to weapon switch but they still helped.
I have promised him my first Hellslayer or Messerschmidt's Reaver, which is when he'll probably come out of retirement for some levels. He has gained 2 levels since Patriarch, just through testing various weapons, so it seems his future looks bright.
