Key Terms
Nervous Impulse: The electrochemical process of deplorization and replorization along a nerve fiber
Conduct: to carry or transmit the nerve impulse
Efferent: to carry impulses outward
Afferent: to carry impulses inward
Neurotransmitter: Chemical secreted by the end of an axon that stimulates a muscle fiber to contract or a neuron to fire an impulse
Myelin: Fatty material that forms a sheathlike covering around some nerve fibers
Electrical Potential: the amount of different in charge ion.
Resting Potential: The different in electrical charge between the inside and outside of an undisturged nerve cell membrane
Synapse: Junction space between axon fiber neuron and dentrites or cell body of another neurons
Neuropeptide: A peptide in the brain that function as a neurotransmitter or meuromodulator
Refractory period: Time period following stimulation during which a neuron or muscle fiber will not respond to a stimulus.
Saltatory conductuion: Nerve impulse conduction that seems to jump from one node to next.
Facilitation: The hastening of any natural process increasing efficiency of natural process.
