CAN I SUPPLY MY OWN FABRIC?

Most upholsterers will work with the customers fabric. However there are a few things to consider. Your upholsterer cannot guarantee your fabric against wearabilty or flaws. There are other supplies that are neccessary when upholstering a piece of furniture. To cover these costs, [which are generally covered in the cost of the fabric] most upholsterers have what is called a cutting charge, in addition to the labor charge. Overall you may not have saved money by suppyling your own fabric.

HOW DO I CHOOSE AN UPHOLSTERER?

Experience!! Experience!! Experience!! This is one of the things you need to look at when choosing a upholsterer. You should look for a upholsterer that has a proven track record and has been in business for a minimum of 5 years. I have tried to eliminate the need for you to just "take pot luck" so to speak, when choosing an upholsterer.

NEW VERSUS REUPHOLSTER?

If your current furniture has a good frame and is comfortable and you like the style, then reupholstery may be your best choice. The finished product may cost almost as much as a moderately priced piece of new furniture, but you'll have exactly what you want and the fabric and materials used in the reupholstery will be of better quality.
