CHAPTER 2 

Hayley opened the door to see her best friend standing before her. Her eyes were red and puffy and Hayley figured that she’d been crying for a while now.

"Andrea what happened?!" Hayley asked pulling her inside and hugging her. She waited until Andrea had calmed down a bit before she continued. "Did you tell Brian? How did he take it?"

Hayley knew how hard this was for Andrea and tried to be there for her as much as possible.

"I couldn’t do it Hayley!" Andrea wailed. "He saw me packing and i told him that i needed space and—"

"You broke up with him?! Andrea, I don’t belive you!" Hayley cried, "Brian was the best thing that ever happened to you and now when you need him the most you’re letting him go?!"

"I had to!" Andrea protested.

Hayley shook her head at her best friend.

"How do you tell your boyfriend that you’re dying, Hayley?" Andrea asked softly, the tears silently making their way down her cheeks.

Hayley hugged her again.

"I don’t know Andy." She whispered, "But you have to tell him, Andy. He loves you and he deserves to know."

It was Andrea who shook her head this time. "Do you know what it’ll do to him now? In the middle of their tour?"

Hayley understood and nodded silently.

"It’s easier this way. Easier for us if we break up." Andrea said.

"No, easier for him you mean. Not you. Andrea you know you cannot do this alone." Hayley stated.

"No I can’t. That’s why i’m going back to LA." Andrea said. "Look Hayley, I love Brian. So much. I don’t want to hurt him. And seeing what he’s been through with his heart, only God knows what will happen if i tell him this now."

"He’s strong Andrea. Stronger than you think." Hayley said.

"It doesn’t matter. I’ve already made up my mind. Try to see it from my point of view, Hayley. Brian would think that I’ve moved away and it’ll force him to move on with his life and meet someone else. He doesn’t have to know." Andrea said. Just the thought of Brian falling in love with someone else was enough to make her hurt inside.

"I understand why you’re doing this but i still think you’re being unfair to Brian." Hayley replied honestly.

"Look my stuff is in the car. Do you mind if i stay with you for a couple days until I leave?" Andrea asked trying to change the subject.

"yeah sure." Hayley replied noticing.

Andrea was about to step out the door and stopped to look at her friend.

"I know you Hayley and i want you to promise me that no matter what happens, you will not tell or even hint to Brian about what is happening to me." Andrea told her.

"But Andrea what if –"

"Just promise me Hayley."

Hayley put her hands behind her back and crossed her fingers. "I promise." She said.

Andrea didn’t seem to notice and was satisfied with that answer so she left. Hayley didn’t like lying to her best friend. But she thought that she was being a better friend by not keeping her promise. She just hoped that she was right.
