Rather self-explanatory, this concept pits PSI- and non-PSI-powered humans -- who will usually fight in teams or as part of a larger organization -- against the various schemes of invading alien life forms.
Humans vs. Humans
On rarer occasions, an "EarthBound" fanfic may have humans in conflict with each other. In the cases of dramatic serials, there tends to be a conspiracy involved, and alien life forms or robots may still be used as tools of the antagonistic side. In Schism: The PSI Scandal, there is no threat of alien invasion; instead, the focus is on a disturbing plot to manipulate governments via the use of PSI and time travel. Likewise, in EarthBound 200X, the primary antagonists are certain skilled or gifted individuals who are recruited, through means of force or misguidance, to join Pokey in his latest endeavors.
Additionally, 'fics such as Hurt, EB: The Perpetual Adventures, the Perpetual Interludes, and Mirror Image include conflicts centered around romance.
