History
This song is something of a parody, which was created exclusively for 5 people who attended Principia College with me from 2000-2001. If you are not one of these people, then all humor in this song will be lost on you. We're making fun of a kid named Mark who plagued my roommates and I to no end. He was one of those guys you can't stand, yet he tries so hard to be your friend and you can't turn him down cause he is so pathetic and you don't have the heart to shatter his dream. Anyway, I won't try to explain the history behind this guy because a full year's worth of angst is represented in this song, and the tale would simply take too long to tell.
The track opens with a recreation of a heartbreaking scene that actually took place one gray December morn, then the legendary 20-second clip titled "Mark's Techno Song". What follows are essentially voice samples of some of Mark's most memorably annoying phrases. The voice samples are overlaid on an extremely basic electronic piece (it took about 45 minutes to make) which simply serves as a background for the sound clips, and is not to be considered a "real" song.
The email letter you hear being read over the course of the song is an "artist's rendition" of one of the numerous emails that Mark wrote to his ex-girlfriend. Whenever my roommates and I would head out to eat, we'd pass the circuit breaker for the dorm rooms in our hall. Every time we walked by it, one of my roommates would trip the breaker to Mark's room, which would ruin whatever he was doing on his computer. Then we'd run like hell- giggling like 3 schoolboys who just pushed the class nerd into the girl's locker room.
I got the inspiration to do the letter this way from the song "Stan" by Eminem.
