Frilandic heads of state




Friland is a constitutional monarchy: the king/queen is therefore the official head of state, even though he/she has a largely ceremonial function. The head of government is the prime minister. Below is the list of Frilandic heads of state:


House Sturald

323 BC - 264 BC King Sturaldiz: the first king of Friland.
264 BC - 230 BC King Hrudawulfaz
230 BC - 198 BC King Frijoharijaz: lost his life in a battle with a certain Tiwaharijaz.
198 BC - 176 BC King Țeudowaldo: died in a skirmish with a rival clan.
176 BC - 148 BC King Saligastiz
148 BC - 147 BC King Hațuwulfaz: was killed by a conspiracy of nobles.
147 BC - 65 BC 1st kingless period: the murder of king Hațuwulfaz led to mutual struggle, because of this Friland was without a king for 82 years.
65 BC - 41 BC King Hludawigaz: after a heavy struggle king Hludawigaz managed to reunite the country under House Sturald.
41 BC - 13 BC King Wulțuțewaz
13 BC - 20 Queen Țruțihildjo
20 - 45 King Segubalțaz: waged war on a disloyal nobleman and fell in the battle of Neujastadiz, which went up in flames.
45 - 71 King Ansugisalaz
71 - 785 2nd kingless period: after the death of king Ansugisalaz more than seven years of chaos and war followed, in which warlords fought eachother for power and the political unity of Friland was lost.

House Gisalberht

785 - 805 King Gisalberht: after centuries of mutual struggle king Gisalberht reunited Friland under one king. He also reformed the government and the laws, which the conservative Frilanders were not happy about. He was therefore quickly nicknamed "Gisalberht ța Hwerbular" (Gisalberht the Changer). Eventually his progressiveness cost him his throne, but nevertheless king Gisalberht was one of the most influential figures in Frilandic history.
805 - 844 Queen Agilțruț
844 - 873 King Ațalberht
873 - 901 King Gebhar
901 - 938 Queen Gisalhild
938 - 960 King Karil: was deposed when he allowed Christian missionaries to preach in Friland. Had no offspring, causing the House Gisalberht to become extinct.

House Segmer

960 - 994 King Segmer: mainly lived in his stronghold in Stolburg. Known for his victories over the Vikings and the Irish in South Walamark.
994 - 1032 Queen Akin
1032 - 1075 King Albwen: dethroned by a coalition under Swențgard.

House Swențgard

1075 - 1079 Queen Swențgard: was queen during the Norman invasion of 1078, tried in vain to defeat the army of Guy le Breton and fell in the battle of Algsmar on July 21, 1079.
1079 - 1125 King Habuk: after Habuk's death his 10 year old son Stainmar didn't manage to stay in power and House Tiswald usurped the throne.

House Tiswald

1125 - 1167 King Tiswald: managed to prevent Friland from being converted to Christendom during the Second Frilandic-Hiverian War.
1167 - 1194 Queen Alrun
1194 - 1238 King Kunmund
1238 - 1264 King Gisalhar: founded the city of Anstarburg in 1261.
1264 - 1432 3rd kingless period: increasing poverty and fear for an outbreak of the plague caused chaos and discord. The Riksțing tried to keep the country together but its influence weakened. King Gisalhar lost his grip on the throne and in most places local nobility took over power.

House Țeudrik

1432 - 1448 King Țeudrik: reunited Friland and restored the power of the royal house and the Riksțing. Under his rule the country experienced a golden age and gained great victories over Hiveria in the Third Frilandic-Hiverian War. Țeudrik was murdered on April 10, 1448 and according to the sagas lived on in the Țeudrikspit, the highest mountain of the Langfergun.
1448 - 1479 King Bloțwulf: after the murder on his father Țeudrik Bloțwulf was crowned king and went so berserk on Hiveria that the Riksțing had to call him to order. Because of his intense rage he was also called "the werewolf" and even centuries after his death people in Hiveria still got the chills when hearing his name. When naughty Hiverian children will not go to bed, their parents these days still threaten that Bloțwulf will come for them, which even has the desired effect on the most troublesome children...
1479 - 1517 Queen Aizgunț
1517 - 1556 King Hagrad
1556 - 1587 Queen Bergin
1587 - 1626 King Erilgast: in 1591 Erilgasts daughter Anghild was kidnapped by Barbary pirates, which led to the sea battles of Gennung and Cape Cornwall.
1626 - 1659 King Widhund
1659 - 1692 King Raginwald: mainly known for his conflict with pope Innocent XI in 1680.
1692 - 1733 King Leubwen
1733 - 1768 King Harwulf
1768 - 1796 Queen Ermangard
1796 - 1838 Queen Amalberg
1838 - 1877 King Sigand
1877 - 1912 Queen Algunț : managed to avert the England crisis in 1879 but could not prevent that Friland lost East Walamark during the Fourth Frilandic-Hiverian War in 1881. Was wounded in this war during a visit to the trenches near Runsburg, but survived.
1912 - 1946 King Wilhand: offered clemency to his "rival" Storgaiz Harwenssun in 1920, who had single-handedly declared himself king of Westarhult and ended up in jail for it.
1946 - 1971 King Hermlaus: refused to visit Hiveria in 1967 because of the massacre that took place three years before in Deuxchâteau.
1971 - 2005 Queen Gawița: acted counter to the Frilandic neutrality politics by openly criticizing the Soviet Union and speaking her opinion during a visit to East Germany.
2005 -    ?    King Waldrik: the current king of Friland.
