Scuba Diving in Oz - Page 1 |
|
|

Since I'm living in this tropical paradise, I thought I would take up scuba diving. The dive sites around here are amazing. I took my PADI Open Water course with Kirra Dive back in August. They're an awesome group of people and a lot of fun to dive with. If you have a chance, I recommend taking up diving as it's so much fun (it's just a bit expensive though). I've been on about a fifteen dives so far. Some of them I did up in Cairns. There are a few photos from those dives on our travel sites. The following photos our from a dive I did on February 7th with Mark Spence (below), Lisa's PhD advisor. |

We did our dive at Cook Island, off the coast of New South Wales. It's a marine reserve and there are just a ton of fish around. The seascape looks most like the photo to the right. There are also a lot sea turtles (below) that hang out there as well. |

I swam with sharks for the first time!!! :O The two photos below are of leopard sharks. The thing was swimming right towards me before turning away. Unfortunately, I was trying to find my camera to get a great photos but I took too long and had to settle for these two. Just an awesome site though!!! |

There were a lot of puffer fish around (left and below left). I couldn't get any of them to puff up because they just swam away. I did find nemo... or at least his cousin, a reef clown fish (right) . We also saw one of the brightest fish, a small wrasse (below right). Well actually we saw a lot of them but I only got one photo :) |

We also saw several rays (left and above). I couldn't tell you what kind but boy, very neat to see swim by. It's just like they are flying through the water. |

There is also another kind of shark that resides around Cook Island, the Wobbegong. You can see it's back end in the photo above. It's harmless to humans and apparently...lazy!!! |

The mad rush to get out of the water at the end of the dive. What a day!!! |
