The Challenge Board

Each statement below is an opening argument/thesis statement (the affirmative side). If you want to argue the opposing or negative side click here, or post your counterargument in the SocialContract.com Message Board.

Anyone may place a debate challenge here. It doesn't matter who you are, only that you have a good topic to argue about.

1. Infanticide should be legal in some cases.

2. The trade deficit (of the U.S. or any other country) is not necessarily a bad thing for that country.

(See $500 challenge. Prove that the trade deficit is a bad thing and earn $500.)

3. There is no need to "create" jobs.

4. The Elian Gonzalez case should have been settled in a family court or a child custody court.

5. All government welfare programs should be abolished.

6. Employees, not employers, should take all the responsibility for workplace safety, should assume all extra costs for safety and be prosecuted for any violation of safety laws.

7. Capital gains income should be taxed at the same rate as any other income.

8. Selective breeding of humans should be used to improve the quality of the human species.

9. The victory of G. W. Bush was gained by changing the rules after the election took place.

10. The goal of "stimulating" the economy is not a legitimate reason for either a tax cut or a spending increase.

11. Collective bargaining is anti-competitive and thus a parasitic practice which transfers wealth from more competitive and more productive members of society to less competitive and less productive workers, which leads to less competition and thus a net decrease of wealth production.
