Gero has several "character races". Although
some of these are quite rare in some parts of the world,
most are availible as player-characters. There are six
"elder blood", created whole by Ruffalonna in the early
days of the world, or twisted into shape by Tronet shortly
thereafter: Elf (CG), Drow (CE), Dwarf (LG), Goblin (LE),
Gnome (CN) and Kobold (LN).
Each of these races has an Alignment tendency--in order
to select a different alignment, the character must first
qualify for, then sacrifice, the experience bonus for his
or her class(es). This represents the strain of fighting
the blood-call.
Outsiders will often assume a character to be of his
race's alignment, and react to him accordingly. Of course,
characters of dramatically different alignments often
become outcasts or pariahs of their own people. These
alignment tendencies are listed after the names in the
above list.
There are also several new races, which have come from
some far-off land of mystery. They usually arrive on Chiar
as barbarians, but quickly assimilate new knowledge into
their world-view. These are: Human, Aaracockra,
Thri-kreen, Locathah, Bullywug and Hissah (Lizard Men).
The new races have no innate Alignment tendencies, but are
often True Neutral, at least in groups that have not
advanced beyond the barbarian stage.
Finally, there are the degenerate races, which
correspond to the new races but are much more sinister in
nature. Members of these races must qualify for an XP
Bonus to choose a non-evil alignment, and must sacrifice
that bonus to choose a Good alignment. These are: Orc,
Manni, , Sahuagin, Kuo-Toa and .
