Vegfiro

    The Redeemer

Vegfiro was a Goblin who was repulsed by the vile
behavior of his kin. He ultimately was banished to the
surface world. He journeyed far and wide, seeking to atone
for the wrongs his race had inflicted upon the others.
When he died, he had developed a following among his kind,
and although they were persecuted on all sides, they
     persevered.

Priests: The Priests of Vegfiro are dedicated to the cause of providing forgiveness and peace to the repentant. They grant absolution to those who wish to atone for their misdeeds. Their message is that if a goblin was able to attain a state of grace, then it should be possible for all of the humanoid races. On the political front, they are fervent anti-war activists, for they feel that the hatred and violence of war prevents the soul from achieving true peace.

Laity: Any who carry a burden of conscience or guilt are welcome to pray for forgiveness, and many who have attained absolution return to the Temples for guidance. In areas long rent by war and discord, many of the war-weary will look to the Temple of Vegfiro for a way to end the strife.
Vegfiro's Wanderers Newest of the True Dieties, Vegfiro has only been in the Pantheon for the last 175 years or so. In that time, his flock has grown rapidly, both in spite of and because of the intense persecution that his followers face. The Goblin Wanderers spend their days walking in Vegfiro's path, seeking to atone for the sins of their kin.
Initiation: In most Goblin lands, the worship of Vegfiro is an underground religion, banned and persecuted by the rulers, who fear greatly this new faith. As such, Prospects are chosen carefully, and only after much careful observation and questioning is the Prospect invited to join. This observation period often includes the "accidental" discovery of a transcript of Vegfiro's writings. How the Prospect reacts to the "heresy" within is his final test. Once accepted, the Initiate is taught the full history of Vegfiro and his teachings, so as to ensure that the propaganda of the Tribe's chieftan does not continue to poison the mind. He is also trained in passive self-defense and how to proselytize to others.
Structure: The Wanderers outside of Goblin lands are typically loners, travelling from Temple to Temple, preaching and helping people they encounter. Since most Temples and Shrines to Vegfiro are built on places where he is believed to have appeared, it is common for many of his servants to attempt to replicate his pilgrimage. This is no easy task, for many of the areas he passed through have since become hostile or treacherous (or at least remained that way). Wanderers who return to the Goblin realms are usually in contact with at most two others of their Order. This helps prevent discovery of the whole of the faithful by hostile rulers.
Adventurer's Notes: Wanderers make excellent PCs, although their pacifism can be frustrating to hack-n-slash types. Often they will try to keep a group oriented on helping settled communities or establish and maintain peace in a region. If the party must travel through Goblin-dominated lands, the Wanderer will have to tread very carefully to avoid revealing her existence. Wanderers seeking to gather converts could make for interesting solo adventures. Wanderers can also play as foils to a party set upon vengence, challenging them to forgive their enemies.
Dogma: Use the peace within to create peace without; emulate the peace without to strengthen the peace within. Grant forgiveness to all who truly repent. Spare the innocent from the predations of the guilty, especially the Goblins. Never kill when another choice exists. Bans: Torture, Killing when not to save a life, Failing to atone for an injustice performed, even by accident.
