Tufrone

    Lord of Wealth

The Kobold Tufrone was the first among his people to gain
the respect of the surface dwellers. He obtained this
respect the old-fashioned way: He bought it.

Priests: Priests of Tufrone worship his wealth as much as him. All races are permitted, as greed is an almost universal emotion. In addition to seeing to the continued prosperity of the faith, the priesthood is expected to promote the stability of the local economy, and to support rulers who stay bought once paid for. They are also act as moneylenders, and powerful Temples are not above using a Geas to ensure repayment.

Templars: Kobold Hoarders are, first and foremost, responsible for protecting the wealth of the Temple, and are ever vigilant against thieves. Typically, Horaders who fail in this duty are required to work it off as mercenaries. Monstrous interest rates on the debt turn this into a lifetime sentence. They are also used to "persuade" reluctant rulers to pass laws friendly to the local merchants.
Laity: The wealthy often make donations to the local Temple, as do merchants and traders. Adventurers, gamblers and thieves are all known to make donations before attempting a large endeavor.
Tufrone's Hoarders Tufrone was possibly the only individual known to buy his way into divinity. The Kobold's ruthless acquisition of material wealth has served as a major inspiration for his kinsmen, and these Hoarders are fanatics when it comes to both free trade and strong law-enforcement for property crimes.
Initiation: Kobolds practically line up for the opportunity to become Hoarders when they come of age. The stricture is a simple one: They must trade their way in. Each brings what he or she has to the outer court of a Temple, which also serves as a market. They then have one year to produce enough wealth to pay for their admission into the ranks. As might be expected, competition is fierce and cut-throat. Only outright theft and fraud are barred. Once in the order, the Initiate is trained in both the philosophies and techniques of the Hoarders. This includes an advanced training in economics.
Structure: Hoarders are strictly accountable to their assigned Temple. There they function in the dual role of guardsman and entrepeneur. The Temple receives a steep (20%) tithe from all businesses operated by the Hoarders. They are expected to both turn a profit and protect the assets of their Temple. They also occasionally act as negotiators in attempting to sway the local government into enacting business-friendly laws. Hoarders who cause a loss to their Temple, be it through either theft or poor business judgement, will be sent on dangerous expeditions or hired out as mercenaries. Since the interest on the loss quickly mounts up, most indebted Hoarders are desperate to get enough money to pay off the principle before they are indentured forever.
Adventurer's Notes: Hoarders are most often encountered in their role as guardians of the Temple's wealth. The Vaults hold many treasures that will prove to be a tempting target for any self-respecting thief. Indebted Hoarders make for great rivals, as they desperately try to reach the treasure lost in tombs and crypts before the party does. It should be remembered, though, that they will not resort to actual theft or fraud.
Dogma: Never willingly lose money. The gold of the Temple is more precious than life's blood. Acquire more wealth for the glory Tufrone. Never steal, lest you be stolen from. Commit no fraud, for that is to steal with words rather than fingers. Let no other lay claim to your wealth. Support those laws which will protect or enhance our wealth, oppose those which could endanger it. Contraband is a meaningless concept--Trade is always legitimate. Bans: Donating to charity without ulterior motives, losing money from the Temple, stealing, commiting fraud.
