Trocept
Lawgiver

Trocept was the first Paladin. He founded an order of
Knights dedicated to the propsition that the best way to
resist the powers of evil was to form a benevolent
monarchy, and to serve that monarchy with all their might.
When he died, his order venerated him, coming to worship
him as a prime example of how they should live their lives.
Gradually, the philosophy of the order gathered a following
of outsiders, and Trocept Ascended to full Diety status.

Priests:
The Priests of Trocept are expected to provide support for
existing rulers, as long as those rulers are wise and good. In
areas where and evil, weak or foolish individual is in charge,
they will attempt to locate a suitable alternative. If there is
no central authority at all, they are charged with establishing
one. Priests of Trocept are consistently used as advisers by
just monarchs.

Laity:
Trocept is venerated by many monarchs, and in his
homeland, parades in his honor are still held annually on
the date of his death.
The Paladins of Trocept
Trocept, the Ascended Diety of benevolent kingship and
just rule. His Paladins have modeled their own lives after
his, and are the vangard against corrupting influences. They
provide support to those monarchs approved of by the Priests and
seek out and destroy evil in all its guises.

Initiation:
The Priests of Trocept frequently go on pilgrimages
through villages and towns in their territories, scouting
for youths of courage, valor and honor. The ranks have
swelled recently, the result of the decision 50 years ago
to finally allow women into the ranks.

Structure:
Temples dedicated to Trocept are found in almost every
major urban center, especially those in lands governed
justly under the rule of law. The Paladins perform four
primary duties:
1) Defend the Temple and its Priests. The Paladin is
expected to lay down his or her life before allowing either
to come to harm.
2) Defend the law of the land. If the Paladins are not
part of the acknowledged law-enforcement agencies, they
will not act as vigilanties; rather, they will monitor
suspected criminals and turn over any information to the
proper authorities. They will also supplement the armed
forces in times of war against invaders. This does not
necessarily include attacking neighboring nations, however.
3) Defend the just liege of the land. In addition to
defending him against both military and assassination
threats, the liege is to be protected against possible
corruption and decadence. Indeed, a corrupt or decadent
ruler may be the target of a coup, although only after a
suitable replacement has been found and properly trained.
4) Seek out and destroy threats to the good and just,
and neutralize them. This refers primarily to extraplanar
evils and the most sinister monsters.

Adventurer's Notes:
Obviously, most player adventures will arise out of the
second and fourth charges. The third charge can produce
adventures filled with intrigue, as the player tries to
outmaneuver a sinister new advisor to the court who is
careful to violate no overt law.
Of course, any Paladin will be expected to respond
promptly to a call to aid a Temple.
Paladins also make for intriguing foils for parties of
a more chaotic bent. Paladins distrust too much freedom,
and as such often oppose the removal of laws which they
view as providing necessary safeties, even if it also means
curtailing what others view as vital liberties.

Dogma:
Support and defend your land, its liege and his law.
An evil liege must be replaced, but not in such a way as
to plunge the land into chaos.
The Priests are the Voice of Trocept. Do not suffer
them to be silenced.
Live your own life devoid of all sin, and treat the Law
as sacred. Make yourself an example that others might
follow.
Show mercy when possible, but do not allow compassion to
make you a fool.
Bans: Failing to protect the innocent, working to
unseat a ruler when there is no better alternative
availible, neglecting to act in the face of true evil.
