- Ranma - Tapestry on the wall -

I am alone!
No one can defeat me.
no one ever has
sometimes they may beat me
but in the end I'll kick their ass
I am alone!
I'll defeat any foe
What good does it do me?
if it's all that I know
I am alone!
It's lonely at the top
looking at the people down there
sometimes I wish I could just hop
And no longer be stuck up here.

A tall man in a brown trenchcoat and matching headgear was walking hurriedly. You could theorize about why he was hurrying. It could have been because he had a large furry animal behind him, walking just as hurriedly. It could also have been because it was raining and he was in a hurry to get out of it. OR It could simply be because he was normaly in a hurry and simply hadn't calmed down.

However, none of this was the case.

Soun was in a hurry because his master was in a bad mood and he didn'twant to be anywhere near his master when the little midgit finally exploded.

And neither did the panda that followed him.
It flipped out a sign from nowhere and held it up.

On it read: [Hurry up, I think he's gaining on us]

From a long way behind them, a sound could be heard.

-GEEEENNNNMMMMMAAAA!

The panda broke into a dead run nearly knocking over the man in the trenchcoat when it passed him.
The man in the brown trenchcoat stoped to steady himself.
He heard the rain smattering on the raincoat and smiled; maybe it was safe to go back?

-SSSSSOOOOOUUUUUUUUUNNNNNNNN!

He quickly followed his friend, plowing through the rain on the ground like a motorboat with an afterburner.

-COOOMMMEE BAAACK HEEERRREE!

--

*woosh*

A house went by below them.

*fhrush,fhrush*

They swept through the rain.

*pat,pat,pat,pat,pat,pat*

He ran across the roof.

*shrnk*

He readied himself.

*woosh*

He jumped.

*splash*

... And he landed in the pond.

-Water, always water! For one single time, just once, I would like to stay dry!

-Nnyaaa!

*tchlomp,tchlomp,tchlomp*

They walked into the house.

--

Nabiki was walking in the rain, alone.
She was currently occupied with several odd things that had happened of late and so didn't notice when a diminuitive man jumped up in front of her.

-Nabiki Tendo! The man urged.

She looked up, stared at him for a second in puzzlement and then smirked.

-So... What does Kuno-baby want this time, lost his photos?

The little man in brown stepped forward and clasped his hands together in front of him.
-The master must know nothing of this. I'm doing this for Kodachi. Please, I need your help!

Nabiki ran her hand through a part of her hair and let a grin work its way onto her face.
-How much are you paid, excactly?

--

Kasumi walked out of the kitchen with a steaming pot in her hands. She put it down on the table and looked up to see Ryouga, dressed in green, carrying an unconscious Ranma, followed by some sort of cross between a rabbit and a cat AND, here came the important part, they were all dripping wet.

-Hi Ryouga, she said cheerfully, would you like some tea?

--

-WHERE IS RANMA?

Akane waved her mallet around dangerously, as if to emphasise that she was dangerous and should be obeyed.
A few seconds earlier, she had burst through the door and the rain from outside had sprayed into the restaurant, soaking the inhabitant thoroughly.

-WHERE is Ranma? She repeated.

The cat on the clothpile was just sitting there, smiling.

-Miaou! It said.

Akane blinked and seemed to wake up somewhat from a dream. She looked around and noted that she was standing in an empty room, all the tables and chairs had been removed.
After a quick glance in the kitchen, she saw that it too was emptied. She walked up to the cat and glared at it.

-Shampoo, does Ranma have anything to do with this.
She moved her hand around, taking in all of her surroundings.
The cat nodded happily.
Akane flared a bright blue and spoke in strained voice.
-WHERE... IS... HE... NOW!

The cat calmly shrugged and continued to grin.
Moments later, the cat was alone, it purred happily to itself and walked over to the kitchen.

--

Iruka sat in a crouching position.
He was wrapped in a blanket and he was holding a steaming cup of tea in his left hand.
(Darn, why couldn't she serve chocolate, or they could all speak English.) He chuckled to himself at the memory of how THAT was like. (I learned a lot of English that week) He looked over at Ranma, who was being taken care of by Kasumi.
(Well at least she's okay; strange though, that cabbit seemes to be scared of the girl, yet won't leave her side)
He walked over to sit by Kasumi as she tucked the last blanket in place.
-What happened Ryouga? she asked him.
He didn't respond; his name wasn't Ryouga.

-Ryouga?
He was the only one in the room capable of answering though.

-Iruka. He said firmly.

-Iruka, what happened to Ranma?

-I don't know.

He took his arm out of his blanket and stroked his chin in a thoughtful manner, looking closely at the little cabbit that had snuggled up beside the redhead on the floor.

-But... I think I have an idea. He said quietly.

--

*Baam*

Ukyou ran in through the door as fast as she could.
She was totally drenched, despite the having used the spatula as an umbrella. She took of her jacket and shook it about, making it somewhat dryer. Then she draped it over a chair and sat her spatula down beside it.
Having done this, she stretched and breathed in.

-Whoopey!

She began doing cartweels in the restaurant, neatly avoiding all the chairs and tables that came in her way.

-I'm gonna win, I'm gonna win, I'm gonna win! She cheered.

--

Iruka grabbed the cabbit and pushed it into Kasumi's arms.
-Here, take a look at this.

She looked down at it.
-Oh my! (Clearly an understandment)
-Exactly!

She stood up and began walking outside, still holding the cabbit.

-WAIT!
Iruka never looked up from Ranma's prone figure.
-They shouldn't be separated.

Kasumi turned around. Worry actually shone in her face.
-But, but... Ranma can't be around cats.
Iruka nodded at the cabbit.

-That isn't a cat.
-Miaou! The cabbit replied in a serious tone, causing Iruka to glare at it disaprovingly.

--

-Come ON Ryouga!

A blue-clad girl was dragging an unwilling boy behind her.
They were both carrying umbrellas and they both had them above their heads.

-But are you sure that now is such a good idea? I mean we could always come back later and sort of surprise her? He looked at her pleadingly.

-NO, Ryouga you've made your pillow, now you 're going to have to lie down on it.

-Huh?
He eased up on his end of the tugging match.

-I mean, you have made your mess, now you wallow in it.
Ryouga got a blank look on his face and walked up beside her.

-I mean... She glared at him angrily.
-You KNOW what I mean!

Ryouga nodded; it was a conditioned reflex. Even if he had known what she meant in the beginning, he definitely didn't know now.

-Come on, she said grabbing a hold of his arm, let's get you to Akane.

-NOOOOOO! He screamed and tried to run away from her.

-Oh, be quiet. She said as she snagged away his umbrella.

A loud bweeeee could be heard when she picked him up.

--

-What?
Iruka scratched his head.

-Well it's cross between a rabbit and a cat, as you may have noticed.
-Yes, Ranma can't be around cats. She pointed out.

Iruka smiled weakly.
-A cabbit BONDS with its owner. It forms a sort of unbreakable link.

-Which means?
Kasumi put the cabbit down on the ground and it immediately rushed over to Ranma.

-All I know for sure, is that the owner usually becomes a happier person and that if one dies the other WILL kill itself.

He fingered his blanket nervously in an effort to avoid thinking about the logical end to this relationship.

-Oh, and they usually turn into something. He added.

( He was in the pit again; he wasn't alone.
) Something was different, he noticed.
(
) The air wasn't filled with evil, the eyes
( weren't watching, the hissing of angry cats
) couldn't be heard.
(
) -Uchan! He called out; sometimes she had been
( there too. Not as many times as himself though,
) not nearly as much.
(
) Then, at first unnoticed, a sobbing could be
( heard. It was a quiet wailing that slowly rose
) to a loud expression of grief.
(
) -Uchan, he called out again. (We must have been
( locked down here without the cats) He didn't
) think as far as why he and his friend should be
( locked in an empty cellar, alone.
)
( He crawled closer to the sobbing, which had
) shrunken down to a quiet wailing once again.
( Out of the darkness he could see a shape slowly
) become visible.
(
) It was furry and reddish in color, it had large
( ears and a typical bunny-tail on its behind.
)
( -Hey are you okay? He raised his hand to pat the
) thing's shoulder.
(
) It quickly turned around and stared at him. He
( could see how it shook with fright.
) -Come on, don't be scared. He said and stroked
( its back. A tear ran down its cheek and it
) jumped onto his lap.He smiled and continued to
( pet it. (For once there are no cats)
)
( Then, it started to purr.

Kasumi quietly walked out into the kitchen.
(Whatever happened to simple life, eeeh Ranma? Why couldn't dad just have let go of all that nonsense and come home before it was to late? Or instead, couldn't mom's family have been a little bit more "normal"?)
He looked down at the redhead that was lying on the floor and sighed.
(If you liked Kuno in this world as well, I would at least know that I was close. I bet that was a fluke though, my whole world was a FLUKE.)

-It's not fair, everywhere go I run into strangers, doing strange things. He gave of a short scoff.
-Only they aren't strangers are they? They're my mother or father or my uncle and his friends and sometimes my children. IT'S NOT FAIR.

He struck the redhead right in her stomach, causing her to wake up rather abruptly.
-Ghaaa! What happened? She said as she bolted up.
She looked around her. She saw Iruka.
-Ryouga?

Kasumi came back in with a bowl of rice.
-Hi, Ranma, I see you're awake.
-Yeah! Ranma rubbed her head.
-I had the strangest dream, I dreamed I was holding a cat that looked like a rabbit.
-That wasn't a dream, Ranma! Iruka said sternly.

-Huh?
Iruka shed his blanket and pointed at a spot behind Ranma.
Ranma turned around and looked down.
She jumped up and stuck to the ceiling.
-It's a cabbit, Ranma, and I think it's yours.

--

*frush,frush*
The rain swept the sidewalk like...
Well, like a lot of very hard rain.

In the rain, two people were walking.
One was a little girl, dressed in a yellow raincoat.
She wasn't acually walking as much as skipping a few steps every time and then going sideways, sometimes left, sometimes right. The other was an older girl, say about ten; she had a semi-transparent umbella in her hand. She also had orange hair.

-So you say they went directly to the Tendo dojo?
-Yes. The little girl answered.
*sigh*
-I knew it! I knew I was gonna mess up.
She bit her lip (Nabiki will never trust me now, I let her get away to who-knows-where)

The little girl saw her and "danced" closer.
Taking her arm in her hand and said:
-You didn't mess up, Iruka just took her to the Tendos' because she was sick.

She was about to respond when she was knocked over by a panda. She got up and straightened out her now wet clothes, only to be nearly knocked over again by a large man in a brown trenchcoat.

He howewer, caught her and held her steady.
-Sorry, so sorry. He blurted out before he rushed away again.

She was just about to ask the little girl to make her dry again when her blood froze. From behind her she could hear a certain something come closer at a terrible speed. She recognised its *voice* and it was screaming.

-SSSSSOOOOUUUUNNN! GEEEENNNMMMAAA!

--
* Every woman in Nerima must have chased after, fled from or generally avoided that voice at some time or other.
--

Ranma dropped from the ceiling.
-What are you talking about Ryouga?

-I AM NOT RYOUGA!
-That's right Ranma, Kasumi interjected, he prefers Iruka.
She then proceded to walk out into the kitchen again, presumably to get some more food to put on the table.

Ranma walked around Iruka, excamening him carefully.
-You sure look li...
Ranma cut off her sentence when she felt something short and fury crawl against her leg.

-Yaaah! She screamed and grabbed the ceiling again.
Iruka covered his face with his hands and sighed.

-Ranma, it's only a cabbit*, it can't hurt you**. What's more it's YOUR cabbit and you have a responibility to take care of it.

-I ain't taking care of no cat creature. She said, staring at it.

-Ranma, jump down.
She did.
-Now, we're going to take this slow and easy.
Iruka gently took hold of her hand.
-Say after me Ranma, A cabbit isn't a cat, a cabbit isn't a cat.
-S'not a cat, s'not a cat, s'not a cat. She repeated.
-Okay, now I'll just GENTLY pick up the cabbit and place it in your arms.

Iruka bent down and picked up the cabbit.
-Now be a good girl and let your owner get used to feeling you in her arms.
The cabbit nodded gravely and Iruka slowly put it in Ranma's arms. Ranma gulped loudly.
-Is this it? She asked shakily.

-Yes Ranma, now stand still, the both of you, I'm going to try some magic.
Iruka began waving his arms around in a slow, circular motion.

Kasumi called from the kitchen.
-Iruka, are you going to join us for lunch?

Ranma opened her eyes with a shock and looked down at the horror in her arms.
-Yaaah! She screamed and jumped backwards.

-Holy shit. Iruka exclaimed, jumping after her.

Ranma let go off the cabbit and made a grab for the ceiling again. At this Iruka sighed and jumped up to forcibly take her down. As Iruka caught Ranma's shoulder, he felt something that could only spell doom.

-Ranma! I think I'm gonna....
What he was going to say got cut off in mid-sentence when both he and Ranma imploded in a ball of white light.

Kasumi came back out with a tray of plates.
Her eyes met with a pair of sad equals who were at about ground level.
-Hmm, I guess not.

--
*One of the most stupid things you can say since a cabbit is never ONLY a cabbit but in fact the Swiss army knife of the animal kingdom. Hey look, it slices, it dices, It shoots laserbeams and it's a nifty way of getting from place to place.
**Let's see, what does it say in the note above, hmm, oh yeah, It shoots LASERBEAMS!! Can it get more dangerous?

Can you see the red thread,
the yellow or the blue?

Can you see the green one
in between the two?

Take a look at all of it.
Can you see it too?

It all forms a tapestry.
A tapestry for you

Author's (huge) notes: And so another one is done. After this one I'm going to take a slight break for a while. To be precise, until after school starts again. I will then most likely flood the ffml with stories that I've written under the time that I couldn't get at the net. Anyway, on with the rant.

Am I a good writer and should I continue?
The question is really, why so many jumps in the story and does anybody really understand what I'm writing about?

Apparently there a number of people who take time and read it. I've gotten some E-mail that basicaly say "Hi, I'm reading the stuff and It's good, bye" and I've gotten some E-mail that says "I like it but would you mind explaining this whole thing one more time, I'm not sure that I get it". (a heck of a lot of these) Both of these actually boost my ego in a fashion (even if ten E-mails in a row of the latter can be REALLY annoying) but if they succed in one area, they fail in another.
Improving the Story.

I know I have a lot of shortcomings other than being confusing or cryptic (I really hope that I'm mainly cryptic. I like the word, it's neat), like, say, the fact that I have yet to include a disclaimer or thanks to people who wrote to me....

Which reminds me, THANK ALL OF YOU FOR THE REPLIES TO MY STORY.
(All twenty-two of you)

...names before the lines (someone actually wrote to me about this, a noisy THANK you to you! I never thought that it could be percieved as a problem. I do want to keep the namelessnes in there though, because it gives a sort of an effect. If more people write in and complain about it I might change my mind. But I seriously like the effect, i e words taken freely out of thin air) spelling mistakes, (foood for one, even if that particular one was intended) and out of character behaviour.

The OOC is something that I deem important. So if you think that Ranma is way too easygoing around the cabbit or he really shouldn't hold it at all (even if he wasn't aware of what it looked like at the moment) PLEASE TELL ME! Now I think I've babbled long enough, may the guest come forth. > >*tadaa* > >WAIT, I forgot about that, somebody asked me why I put in anime sounds after my notes. The thing is, I like variety. As such I "invite" guests over for the afterword, some times I put weird things in the ending, like "-Chiii,chii" and stuff like that. Simply put, some things in animeland can't speak properly. It's as simple as that. If they say "-Nyaaa" on screen, they say "-Nyaaa" when I put them at the end of my author's notes. Also I only put in animals (or similar) when I feel that I'm short on time, if the notes have grown WAY out of proportion or if I'm REALLY out of ideas. Anyways, on to the guest.

*tadadaa*

Ooooh what a nice script, I'll call you Jean Claude.
What a nice computer, I'll name you Dewi.
I love this power cord, I'll call you---

[email protected]
(Thank the creator for backup batteries and backup savings. BTW I'll have you all know that Dewi is the way they pronounced David in old bretogne in France, and yes it has a lot to do with Dewin)

Freemage's Notes:
Well, I guess that means I'll be caught up on this, if he won't be back till after New Year's. In the meantime, folks, it's pretty obvious that the man pays attention to his C&C, so how's about you send him some, right now?
