Intro.
Peridot comes from the Arabic word "faridat" meaning gem.  Peridot was called "Gem of the Sun" by the Egyptians because peridot was mined at night and would glow like the sun when highlighted in the dark.  Peridot's range in color from a light yellow-green to an intense grass green to a deep olive green. The peridot is formed by a volcanic action.
When it was set in gold, believed that Peridot could chase away evil spirits and dissolve curses.  Once thought to bring happiness in marriage and the power of eloquence in speech, other cultures believed that it had the power to cure asthma and fend off a fever's thirst.  It's ancient source was the Isles of St. John in the Red Sea.
