Sam & Andy's First World Trip
The photos have been updated again (07/05/05). **********PLEASE SIGN OUR GUESTBOOK WITH ANY MESSAGE/COMMENTS************* ...We bought a car in Sydney (a 3.8 litre V6 Holden Commodore which we called Ingrid after the Cyclone)and travelled up the East Coast. Beautiful coastline, and some good diversions inland too. Myall Lakes, Byron Bay, Fraser Island, Whitsundays, Glass House Mountains, Great Barrier Reef and much more! We managed to sell the car in Cairns to a couple of lovely, mad Irish girls. Then a flight down to Melbourne to catch the World Superbikes at Philip Island! The reputation for 'four seasons in one day' in the Melbourne area came true and we had blistering heat followed by a hail storm whilst watching the racing. Next hired a car and drove along the Great Ocean Road (which lived up to it's name and was fantastic)from Melbourne to Adelaide. Did the next Great Train journey on the Legendary Ghan from Adelaide to Alice Springs - a little more sleep as the seats were a little more comfortable than on the Indian Pacific! Our friends from Sydney met us at Alice and we spent four days together in the fabulous red centre visiting Uluru and Kata Tjuta. From Alice we took the Wayward tour bus for a four day trip up to Darwin through the Northern Territory. Met lots of great people including Rex, our tour guide and had a fab time. Kakadu was next and we took a 3 day tour with Kakadu 4WD Safari into the outback. Were told not to take shower gel as we wouldn't be near any showers! Had a wonderful 3 days and 'showered' in waterfalls and lakes, so no bad smells! Again met wonderful people who we're still in touch with. Saw some amazing wildlife - Crocs, Frilled Neck Lizard, Long Necked Turtle, Olive Python, also amazing Termite Mounds taller than us! Andy loved Darwin but a little too hot for Sam! Another flight back down to Sydney where we had our last couple of days in Australia with our friends helping us do some of the remaining 'touristy' things. These included the ferry from Balmain to Circular Quay, going up Centrepoint (the tallest building) and going to an AFL game (where Andy hugged the Sydney mascot and we met some mad Melbourne Demons fans). It was all good!! We've now moved on to New Zealand which was a bit of a shock at only 4 degrees C and hail storms on arrival (Darwin was 36). We bought some warmer clothes and hired the groovy campervan in the picture. We're now travelling the South Island seeing lots of beautiful scenery. More soon ... SEE OUR NEW ZEALAND PHOTOS PAGE!
