  This site explain who are the Basques and who is ETA (Euskadi Ta Askatasuna) and why they want the independence from Spain and France. The Basque terrorism poblem is a complex one. The Basque never felt very stronge about independence until the end of the 19th century when industrialitation brought immigration and some things started to change in the basque culture and social life. Two civil wars during that century in what most of the basques where in the defeated side made things worst. Today the Basque Country is suffering a silence war that have force many Basque to live in the exile, some of them are living in the USA and most of them in Spain. Unfortunately, the Basque government, which is hold in minority by the Basque Nationalist Party, does not try to stop the violence, but in some ways encourage it. Basque Nationalist Party believe that the Basques are a different ethnic and therefore they should have their own nation. |
