We've been interfering in the rest of the world, funding dictators, starting wars, trading guns for drugs, and so on, since the beginning of the Cold War. But that was all the CIA, or a branch of the military, or at worst, the president acting without the knowledge of the American people. If Americans knowingly strike first against a country that has done NOTHING to provoke war, then we become the bad guys. Period. This isn't a game, or a strategic strike, or the punishment of a very naughty dictator who once tried to kill the pwesident's daddy. This is an act of empire.
By the way, apparently we kill looters now. Or potential looters who frolic on the metal hulks of our busted tanks. Or journalists who have the NERVE to tape such frolicking. Because we have to show them that, uh...you know...it's wrong...for them to rejoice in the small victories of our enemies...by, uh...slaughtering them with apache rocket fire. Yeah. Cool. Sounds good.
