Thoughts on Episode 6 and Outlook for Episode 7

Thoughts on Episode Six

Airport Shuffle

Teams had a choice of 2 departures from Vilnius, 6AM on Czech Air through Prague, and a direct flight on LOT Polish Air at 6:25AM.

Departing at 6AM, landing 2:10 PM, through Prague on Czech Air, then through Vienna were TK and Rachel. But the flight from Vilnius to Prague landed late, missing the first connecting flight.

Likewise, departing at 6AM, through Prague on Czech Air, then through Zagreb were Nicolas and Donald, who found the flight that TK and Racel booked was closed.

Departing 6:25AM on LOT Polish Air, landing 11:20 PM Ron and Christina, Jennifer and Nathan, and Kynt and Vyxsin, ultimately the lead pack

Through Frankfurt, landing 2:35 PM were Azaria and Hendekea. The agent for unknown reasons gave them business class seats instead of what Azaria plainly requested. Instead, they received business class seats and were forced to rebook.

But, those on second flight found themselves ahead of all the other teams when the flight to Prague encountered delays causing those teams to miss all their connecting flights and alternates. Donald's slowness allowed TK to book a better flight ahead of Nick and Don. Nick was furious when told the first flight out of Prague was closed, so they had to settle for the flight through Zagreb, not knowing that Azaria and Hendekea would still be behind them.

TK and Rachel seemed to know where they stood in the airport shuffle when they arrived in Croatia, while Nicolas and Donald seemed confused.

Find Fort Lawrence

The problem is that Dubrovnik is a walled city, with 2 km of walls in total. Part of that is a lengthy seawall, including named forts. Kynt and Vyxsin and Jen and Nate lose time looking around the docks for the cluebox, allowing Ron and Christina to gain a lead they would not relinquish. On the first flight, they arrive at the cluebox last, narrowly missing a city bus when they are tryintg to turn around on their roundabout unplanned route.

Roadblock: Who has a builder's eye?

At Fort Lawrence, one team member had to search through a pile of 150 stones to find one of eight that fit into the wall, and have the selection approved by a stone mason in order to receive their next clue.

Ronald and Christina Ronald Steady effort earns first place.
Azaria and Hendekea Azaria Hendekea is busy watching Nicolas and Donald on the zip line while Azaria hurries to find the right stone
Nicolas and Donald Nicolas Donald is slowed by fatigue, losing some of their lead over Azaria and Hendekea. Held fifth
Rachel and TK Rachel Unhurried as they are by themselves. Do OK to remain in fourth.

Zipping Along

On completion of the Roadblock, teams had to take a tandem zip line from Fort Lawrence to Fort Borkar.

Detour

Short and Long: Teams must rappel down the wall of Fort Borkar, follow a marked path, and climb another wall. It would have been by far the easier task if the distance to the clue box was not longer and through narrow and twisting streets. Still one team did benefit from taking this option.

Long and Short: Teams had to take a tandem zip-line to the water, swim to boats, then row them around the city wall to the harbor for small boats, and tie off their boat. The distance to the clue box was shorter, to compensate for the relative difficulty. Did anyone mention that it would be advisable to towel off once they left the boats?

Result

Kynt and Vyxsin Short and Long Do well enough with the climbing, great at the rappel. Vyxsin's father was in military and gave her experience with climbing.
Jennifer and Nathan Long and Short Once they got to the boats, the bickering got really ugly. What is it about rowing, anyway?
Ronald and Christina Long and Short Ron remembers how to row to maintain lead on bickering couple, even after having to turn around in the boat twice, and having to turn the boat around.
Azaria and Hendekea Long and Short Had Donald and Nick in sights, but could not catch up, despite a furious rowing effort by Azaria.
Nicolas and Donald Long and Short Directionless Nick had trouble finding last clue box after holding lead on siblings.
Rachel and TK Short and Long Did well enough as they were by themselves in fourth. Rachel did well with the climbing

Pit Stop

Once the Detour was completed, teams were directed to take a taxi to the Stone Cross Overlook on a hill with a great view of the city of Dubrovnik and out over the Adriatic Sea.

Disaster struck Jen and Nate when they try to get a taxi following the Detour. Of the four teams doing the water tasks, they are the only one denied a taxi ride because they are too wet. Jen had a really bad meltdown, crying and being in emotional distress. Perhaps out of frustration, they find a private car to drive them, but it is not a taxi as specified in the clue. Phil sent them back, warning them to make haste. They are lucky to only lose one spot when they are sent back to find the correct form of transportation.

Kynt and Vyxsin 2
Jennifer and Nathan 3
Ronald and Christina 1
Azaria and Hendekea 6
Nicolas and Donald 5
TK and Rachel 4

Outlook for Episode Seven

Are we back to the airport shuffle again? The order of finish was more determined by airport problems, or lack of them than competition in the tasks and navigation. The exception was Jen and Nathan, dropping a spot when they had to go back and find a taxi to the Pit Stop. That means any team is vulnerable. Why is V so desparate to drive fast down a hill? The oldsters do have their problems. Donald is fighting fatigue, while Ron still has his hernia. Jen and Nathan are about as hard on each other as any team has ever been, and Jen's last meltdown was really bad. What did they do to prepare for working together for the Race? Of the teams remaining, only TK and Rachel seem calm, cool and collected. Perhaps they are in the best position to collect the million.

What will Episode 7 reveal about the racers as they row and climb in Croatia, and who will be eliminated next? The air date is two weeks after Episode 6, one week after the finale of Survivor China. Watch Sunday, December 23 at 8PM Eastern/Pacific, or after 60 Minutes, if delayed by NFL football.
