Fred Holding A carp
Hello im Fredrick, this is a little bit about me. I am 51 and I live in the west midlands. My interests are course fishing, computers, and wildlife. When I first became interested in computers, I didnt have the money to buy one, then in 2001 I started to go fishing matches on a canal in Sellyoak, Birmingham. I had been there before fishing matches but it wasnt that good until now. One of the first matchs I took part in, I won with 9lb, the best weight up until that time was 10lb, so every Sunday and Tuesday I went and fished in the 10 league matches, best 5 out of 10. I won the 5 matches week after week. I also won the league. Everything was going really great for me, it had been the best year I had taken part in for a long time. One of the matches I fished on peg 22, I won with 14lb 8ozs 2drams on hemp seed and tares, On 13th May 2001 thats the record there now. I cant see anyone beating that for a long time. Altogether I won 24 matches and just over 1000 in about 3 months on that canal. Part of that money paid for my computer.
For those of you who are using Windows 95 to XP here are a few good sites with tips for you.
I hope these are of some help to you.
Ready To Go
Common & Mirror Carp (Cyprinus carpio) These are one of our countries largest and fastest growing fish. They are capable of putting on upto 4 pounds per year, the record now stands at over 55lbs. "wild carp" (wildie). These fish are famous for their fighting ability, but seldom grow to more than 10lbs. The carp is a great summer feeder, but is also known to feed in the winter when the stocking density is high.

Tench (Tinca tinca) A great favorite with most anglers. This hard fighter is a super pond and lake fish. They rarely grow to more than 10lbs and are a good summer feeders, but unfortunately poor feeders in the winter.
Roach (Rutilus rutilus) The most prolific species in the UK. A two pound roach is most anglers dream. They have the ability to breed even when stocking density is high. They are possibly the best all-rounders as they feed both in the summer and winter and are good for matches. A little hardier than the bream.
Bream (Abramis brama) Great winter feeders which puts them high on the priority list with most clubs keen for all round fishing. A specimen fish would be 10lbs plus, but fish over 6lbs are commonplace, normally they can really boost a fishery. The small 4-10" bream require careful handling.
Perch (Perca fluviatilis) This is the most underestimated species as it will often feed in winter when all else fails. Being a predator, it will survive in densely populated waters.

Crucian Carp (Carassius carassius) The golden warrior seldom grows to more than two pounds. It is not a very common fish, Probably the nicest fish to catch float fishing in the summer. Unfortunately it is a very poor winter feeder
Rudd (Scardinius erythrophthalmus) This surface feeder is once again underestimated. It is one of our strongest species and it competes better than roach and bream for food.
Gudgeon (Gobio gobio) By making a one-off stocking, it is often possible to get this species well established in a water as they are good breeders. Contrary to popular belief they are quite happy in a still water.

Pike (Esox lucius) This predator is now becoming more sought after for stocking, as fisheries realise their potential to bring anglers in during the winter months, which of coarse helps the cash flow! However, this is only recommended where there is a good head of fodder fish.
