Our Story

Okay, so this is where we tell you all about how we met. It was April of 2000, the night before the Millennium March On Washington. Jesse was in Utah visiting his family and Frankie was at home in Maryland. It was late and we were both bored, so we hopped on the net to find some people to chat with. We spoke briefly about the march and how Jesse was upset he was stuck in Utah and wasn't able to attend. After that we really didn't talk for a couple of weeks. Jesse doesn't even remember speaking then. So, one Saturday night while we were both home, and Jesse instant messaged Frankie. It was the night that Razor-n-Guido were at Velvet Nation, and neither of us happened to be there. (The only two gay men in the D.C. area that weren't..hahaha). So we chatted for a couple of hours, and found out we had a lot of the same values and such.

We talked for a couple more weeks on the net, then started talking on the phone. The first time we talked wasn't that amazing, pretty boring actually. Neither of us was too impressed with the other, but we still had some attraction toward one another. Then, one night we decided to give each other another chance on the phone. That night, we ended up talking for four hours straight. There was not one moment of silence throughout the entire conversation. We made plans to finally meet that next day, May 31, 2000.

Jesse picked Frankie up at his house after he got off of work. We ended up going and sitting at Starbucks for two hours just talking, getting to know one another. The conversation was non-stop the entire night. After coffee, we went for dinner and then a movie. Mission Impossible 2...what a great first date movie...hahaha. The night ended with Frankie asking for a kiss, and then another, and another, and then just one more.

The following Friday Jesse asked Frankie if he wanted to go out...at 2:30 am. So, we went out and ended up spending the next 18 hours together! We went to a park in D.C. and just talked for hours as the sun rose. Around 7, we headed to Starbuck's for coffee, since we were both dead on our feet at that point. About an hour later, after we regained a bit of energy, we decided to go to The National Zoo. Since it was so early, there was no one there, which was very nice. Around noon, we went back to Frankie's house and waited for a couple of his friends to come over. They finally arrived 3 hours later, and wanted to go to Wal-Mart. So we went along. At this point we'd given up on coffee and had to go for the caffeine pills. We'd both been awake LONG past our bedtimes and it was starting to take its toll on our brains. Our second date finally ended at 9 that night.

One would think that after two people had spent so much time together in such a short time span that they'd need some time apart. Not us; the next day we were together for another 12 hours, and have been at each others side almost every day. It wasn't long after that second night together, that we knew we'd be together for the rest of our lives...

After a short three months and being separated for a week the inevitable finally happened. It was early Sunday morning, September 3rd. We went out to Velvet Nation with our friends, since no one had seen Jesse because he was in Utah visiting his family. Frankie looked at Jesse and said "I want you to be my husband." Jesse replied, "I want you to be my husband too," not exactly understanding what Frankie was saying. Frankie repeated, "No, I want you to be my husband. I'm asking 'Will you to be my husband?'" Jesse's face lit up and he got teary eyed, "Yes!" We both cried for a moment, then started announcing to our friends the good news.

Jesse told Frankie that he was planning on asking him that night, at the park we went to on our second "date." So we went there and Jesse proposed formally. He got down on one knee, looked deep into Frankie's misty eyes, and asked him to be his husband and to share the rest of our lives together.  The next day, we announced the good news to Frankie's family, and began moving Jesse's things into Frankie's house. Everyone knew it was going to happen and was very supportive of us, at least on Frankie's side of the family. Jesse's sister and oldest brother are the only people in his family that have shown any support for us.

So that's our story thus far. We're looking into all the details for the wedding and hoping to have it in June 2001.
