| Scouting has Something to Offer Everyone!
With the help of dedicated troop leaders and other adult volunteers, Girl Scouts have the opportunity to: make new friends; explore new interests; work and plan as a group, in a supportive, non-competitive environment; earn badges and recognitions; develop leadership skills; know the personal satisfaction of contributing to their community. How can my daughter participate in Girl Scouting? Join a troop. Meetings may be held afterschool or on weekends. Scouts may meet at schools, church facilities, or other available spaces. Your daughter may join a troop of the appropriate age level at any time. Word of mouth among active Scouts brings in new members even as Seniors! For information on joining Girl Scouts in Franklin County, please contact our Service Unit Manager via email at [email protected]. What does it cost to join? The annual membership fee to join the Girl Scouts of the USA (GSUSA) is $10. This fee is non-refundable, and must be paid by girls and their adult leaders. As this fee covers accident insurance, as well as program services provided by GSUSA and our council, we encourage parents and guardians participating in troop activities to join, as well. In addition to the membership fee, most troops collect dues to cover expenditures such as snacks, craft supplies and badges and pins. Trips and special activities may require additional fees. We do not want financial need to prevent any girl from participating in Girl Scouts! Girl Scouts offers financial aid to assist with membership fees and program activities through its Girl/Adult Financial Aid (GAFA) Fund. Your daughters leader can assist you in applying for these funds. All applications are confidential. How can I get involved? As a leader Parents willing to volunteer as troop leaders are the lifeblood of Girl Scouting in our community. You do not need any experience. You need not have ever been a Girl Scout. Training is provided on all levels. All it takes is a willingness to give your time, your energy and a bit of your heart to make a difference in girls lives. As most of our leaders will attest, the experience has brought them closer to their daughters, enabled them to grow personally, created lasting friendships within the Girl Scout community, and made them proud to be part of such a powerful and empowering movement for girls and young women. As a volunteer There are many opportunities to volunteer in other ways, at the troop and community level from organizing a trip, to coordinating cookie sales, and planning events. Any help you can give enriches the Girl Scout experience for our girls! To learn more, contact our Service Unit Manager Jessica Abbott via email at [email protected]. |
