August 25 1999
Things are getting a bit hectic these days, what with no computer at home, limited time at work and family stuff just keeping me busy. My updates may be very sporadic for the next couple of weeks. Sunday, a few hours after hearing about my grandmother's death I was hit, very hard and very suddenly, by a thought (stop snickering, it could happen): sis Teresa or sis-in-law Gloria were going to give birth within a week. I had no doubt about it, so I told Teresa and my mom. They thought it would probably be Gloria, since she was planning to induce labor around the beginning of September (Teresa and Gloria were both expecting boys on September 17). The next night, when the family was gathered at my folks' place, as Teresa and I told Gloria about my prediction, I knew that Teresa would give birth first. I didn't say this in front of Gloria, but I was certain of it. I was also certain the day would be Saturday, August 28. This morning, at 2:28 am, Teresa gave birth to a healthy, five pound baby boy named Ryan Lynden Cyr. Teresa came through the 7-8 hour labor with flying colors (and a little help from the epidural and her friends). This isn't the first time this sort of thing has happened. On December 6, 1991, my uncle Louis (Dad's older brother) passed away after a long illness. On December 13, 1991, my niece Jessica was born, three weeks early. I was sure the same thing would happen this time around. Hey, two out of three ain't too shabby. |
