Europe's most eastern spot

Stanislaw Mucha: The Center

Searching for the one and only center of Europe, Mucha (director), Susanne Schüle (camera), and their team meet strange - or rather quite normal? - people in Europe, and we learn once more that reality is sometimes stranger than fiction. If you saw the film "Deckname Dennis", you know what I mean. From Hessen, Germany, to Lithuania, there are lots of "center of Europe" spots, and the locals are convinced that theirs is the real and only one. Mucha's film also shows the local people's other convictions and how they live. The focus is on eastern Europe, for "they want to enlarge Europe now" like someone in the west said. In the east there are newspapers called "Echo of the Dog" or "Militia News" and clocks tick differently ...

Liedermacher Hans Söllner

Hans Söllner - the Bavarian Rebel

Singer and songwriter Hans Söllner ("Hey Staat") may be hard to understand for his dialect, but the meaning of his songs are easily understood and concern all of us. Can it really be true that his songs are never played on the radio? May be, because his free speech made him go to court more than once. Söllner once went to a police station, showing a piece of hash, denouncing himself for illegal ownership of drugs. "Söllner's music is real folk music, but the State of Bavaria can't quite accept it," his sollicitor Jürgen Arnold said. Maybe it must be said, that Söllner's music has more Reggae vibes in it that what is otherwise know to be German folk music ("Volksmusik"). Nice to see the man on the big screen - don't miss him!

Open Mind Artists: Mira

Grota, Bello and a God flash film by Mira
Open Mind Artists Community presents a great new website with animations and illustrations: Miratrick.de, orginally launched in 2003. Animations and Illustrations by Miriam Paesler. Mira was born on a very warm 4th of May in 1976, in Münster, Germany. That is where she had to go to school and grew up. Later she moved to the centre of Münster, where she started to study Art’s History at University, but she got lost in the library, so one year later she started something more hands-on, which was Design. Life in Münster was beautiful, good people, but she inherited her father’s sense of adventure. So she went to Australia for one year, then she decided to stay another one, living in Sydney, studying Visual Communication. That was very inspiring, she had friendly teachers (Wendy! Adam!), who imposed on her a fascination with animation. Also Ray Harryhausen awarded Mira's models "Grota & Bello" with a bottle of Vodka and a signed tea towel, to motivate her even more. Back in Germany, she finished her studies in Münster. For her Diploma she made a music-video-clip for the local band Orangepeeler, which was a lot of fun (after she had overcome lots of technical problems, all solved by her boyfriend that time). The video is called "Punky Fluff" and is featured on the new "Translations" compilation by Mind Sound Records. In 2003 Mira participated at the European Animation Master class at Halle, East Germany. She recently moved to Berlin to continue her artwork.

Drum'n'Bass is back in town

"A town with no drum'n'bass parties can't be called a town. But isn't Münster a town?!" Spring 2004 brings an end to years of waiting. After a recent Old School Breaks feature at Luna Bar club, April will be real massive: DJ Phil Barbee, Bangarang Crew (Sista Lexa and Queen Easy: Tribal, Ragga, Jungle), Waktu Loopa (Nu-Breaks, Big Beats und Psychedelic Breakbeat!) and special guest Man at Cuts (Turntablist from Rheine) bring back a music that may be forgotten, but which is alive and kicking. Games and Sports News

Clusterball is back again

Clusterball is an online sport, designed to invoke the same adrenaline rush as Quake and Unreal, but replacing the splatter and gore with pure gameplay. By combining the feel and gaming experience from ball, flight and racing games, Clusterball is totally unlike anything you’ve ever seen before. The base version of the game and the membership is free of charge. February 2004, Clusterball's new owner, Resolution Interactive, and Ballsnatchers join forces, one site, one staff, to relaunch game servers and start development of a sequel. Clusterball's even going to be developed to fit right into your mobile telephone. It is Resolution Interactive and Overloaded who has signed a deal for the development and exploitation of a 3D version of Clusterball on mobile phones. The revolutionary mobile 3D game Clusterball will be available for download to mobile phones before Christmas 2004 and available at operators around the world.
