Chapter 31

Kevin woke up to the sound of someone coming in his room.  He turned over to see Tracy setting down his breakfast tray.  "Morning, you feel like eating?" she asked with a smile.  Kevin sat up and ran his fingers through his hair, "Yeah, I'm actually kinda hungry," he said.  Tracy wheeled the table over and adjusted it.  "Tracy, can I ask you a question?" Kevin said.  "Sure," she replied.  "Last night after you took out the supper tray, did you come back in here?" he asked.  Tracy looked at him, "Yes, but you had already went to sleep, why?"  Kevin looked down at his food, "Oh, no reason."  "OK, well I'll be back in a bit to pick up your tray," Tracy said on her way out.  Kevin watched her leave,
OK, did I dream that?  No, I couldn't have.

"A.J. come on, get your ass outta bed.  Brian wants to be there when visiting hours start," Nick yelled from down the hall.  A.J. rolled out of bed and stumped his toe on the dresser,
Damn this is not going to be a good day, he thought as he made his way to the shower.

Nick walked back into the living room and sat down on the couch next to Tara.  She looked over and gave him a smile, "Is he up yet?" she asked.  "Yeah, I heard the shower come on," Nick answered.  Brian hung up the phone and walked over to Nick and Tara.  "They are gonna set up a room where we can all sit and talk, instead of all of us jamming into Kevin's room," he said.  Tara looked at Brian, she could tell that he was nervous.  "Are you OK with this, really?" she asked.  Brian looked at her and smiled, "If I told you yes would you believe me?"  Tara just shook her head.  Leighanne and Howie came into the living room.  "We're ready," Howie said, as he and Leighanne took a seat on the other couch.

They all sat there staring at each other for a few minutes.  Howie kept looking from Tara to Nick and smiling.  "OK, what did you tell them?" Nick asked Tara.  They all burst out laughing.  Tara put her hand on Nick's knee, "You are the most paranoid person I've met, you know that don't you?" she said laughing.  Nick just sat there with a who me' look on his face.  They all looked from one to the other, then in unison yelled, "A.J. hurry up!!"

Kevin had eaten all of his breakfast, gotten a shower, and was shaving when Tracy came back in to retrieve his tray.  "Well you seem to be in better spirits this morning," she said.  Kevin looked at her, "Yes I am.  I actually got some things worked out in my head last night."  Tracy smiled, "That's good to hear.  Oh, before I forget, you have visitors coming."  Kevin stopped shaving and looked at her, "Who?" he asked.  "I'm not sure, but there are a few of them, we've set up a meeting room for you.  They should be here before long," Tracy said as she picked up the tray and headed for the door.  Kevin was suddenly nervous.  Tracy stopped and looked at him, "Kevin, I'm sure things will be all right."  Kevin looked at her, "How do you know that?"  Tracy smiled at him, "I have it on the highest authority," she said and walked out the door.  Kevin dropped his electric razor in the sink.
I didn't dream that at all!!

Everyone walked into a medium sized room with no windows and one door.  There were a circle of chairs in the middle of the room.  Brian sat down and Leighanne sat on one side and Tara sat on the other.  Nick sat next to Tara, and Howie and A.J. were next to Nick.  That left one chair.  Brian was noticeably nervous, and A.J. looked like he wanted to run out the door any minute.
God, help us, Tara thought as she sat there waiting.  The door opened and Kevin walked in with Tracy.  When he saw who was sitting in the chairs, Kevin began to cry.

Tracy led Kevin over to the chair and he sat down.  Brian looked around, Mark and a couple other security guards were there.  "Can you guys wait outside please," he asked.  Mark and the guys headed out the door, Tara leaned over to Brian, "The nurse stays."  Brian looked at her and Tara smiled back at him.  He nodded his head.  Tracy walked over by the door and leaned against the wall.

No one said anything for a few minutes, finally Brian spoke up.  "Kevin, how are you doing?" he asked shyly.  Kevin was still crying, "I'm OK, Brian how are you?"  Brian looked down at his arm that was still in a sling, "I'm hurt, and I'm angry," he said.  Kevin started crying even harder, "Brian, I'm so sorry!!  If I say that till I'm a hundred it won't be enough!"  Brian looked down at the floor, trying to keep from tearing up, "Kevin, I just don't understand what happened.  I don't understand what could've been so bad to cause you to cope like that."  Kevin looked at him for a minute, "I don't really know.  I guess all my life I've had this problem, I just didn't know it till now."  Brian looked over at him, "That still doesn't answer my question."  Kevin closed his eyes, "Brian, I don't have an answer, cause I just don't know."

Tara looked over at A.J., he was fidgeting in his seat, and he looked like he wanted to kill Kevin.  A.J. caught her stare and stopped.  "Kevin, how is your treatment going?" Leighanne asked.  "Well, I don't know what the doctor thinks, but I know that other person is gone." he said.  "How do you know?" Howie asked.  "I just do, I don't feel him anymore," Kevin replied.  A.J. could take it no longer, "So are we just suppose to trust you now, and hope you wont do this again?  How long before we're at Brian's funeral and your in prison, huh?!"  "Alex, stop." Howie said.  "No, A.J. has a point," Nick said, "How do we know everything is OK?"

Kevin looked across the room at everyone, "I know this sounds crazy, but I know because someone told me."  "Who told you?" Brian asked.  Kevin looked at him, "You wouldn't believe me if I said."  Brian looked at Tara, "Try me, you'd be amazed at what I would believe."  Kevin looked down at the floor, "It was an angel, I think," he said softly.  Leighanne, Howie, Nick and A.J. burst out in laughter.  "Kevin, there is no way in hell that an angel came down from heaven and cured you of your mental problem!" A.J. spat.  "I told you, you wouldn't believe me," Kevin said wishing he hadn't said anything.  Brian looked at Kevin, "I believe you."  Everyone looked at him like he'd lost his marbles, "Bri, you can't be serious?" Nick asked.

Brian ignored them and looked straight into Kevin's eyes, "I believe you," he said again.  Kevin looked at him with some hope, "Really?" he asked.  "Yes, really," Brian answered.  "Oh my God, I'm not hearing this!" A.J. said.  "Brian, this is a little far fetched, even for you," Howie said.  "Honey, angels just don't come down and fix people's problems," Leighanne said.  "That's for damn sure," Nick chimed in.  "Brian, he tried to kill you three times, and you're gonna believe the shit that is flying outta his mouth?" A.J. asked.  Brian looked at A.J., "Yes I am, because I know it's true."  "Honey, how do you know that?" Leighanne asked wondering what mental facility she was going to be visiting her husband in.  Brian looked over at Tara, "Let's just say that I have my own angel that confirms what he said."

Everyone looked from Brian to Tara.  "OK, what the hell is going on here?" Nick asked, "Or am I the only one that is completely lost here?"  Tara looked over at Tracy, "I think it's time."  Tracy nodded her head and locked the door.
