| Chapter 30 Tara awoke with a start. She sat straight up and looked around. She was in the living room on the couch and Nick was curled up next to her. Tara gently eased out from under his arm and made her way down the hall toward Brian and Leighanne's room. She met Brian halfway down the hall. "There's something wrong with Kevin!" they both said in unison. Tara and Brian looked at each other, "Did we have the same dream again?" Brian asked. Tara nodded her head, "I'm never gonna get used to that," she said. "Let's go in the kitchen so we can talk," Tara said turning around and heading back toward the kitchen. Brian nodded his head and followed her. As they made their way into the kitchen, Brian noticed Nick asleep on the couch. "Why's he sleeping out here?" he asked. "Well, we were both sleeping out here until I woke up," Tara said avoiding eye contact. Tara turned on the light above the stove and sat down across the table from Brian. Brian looked at her and raised his eyebrows, "Is there something you want to tell me bout you and Nick?" he asked. Tara looked at Brian, "Nick knows I'm leaving, and he knows that I'm not coming back, he said he wanted this time with me." "He knows your a ..?" Brian started. "No, he doesn't know that. But he knows enough to decide whether or not he wanted to pursue a relationship," Tara said looking down at the table. Brian stared at her for a moment, "I guess he is old enough to make his own decisions. I just don't wanna see him get hurt, he's like my younger brother, and well sometimes I guess I still think of him being that little thirteen year old that used to bug the hell outta me all the time wanting to play video games." Tara and Brian laughed, but then quieted down so as not to wake Nick. "So, tell me your dream," Tara said. "I really can't remember it, I just know that something bad is going on with Kevin," Brian said. Tara nodded her head, "I think he'll be OK. There is someone watching him, she won't let things get to bad." Brian looked at her confused, "What do you mean that someone is watching him? You mean like you were watching me?" he asked. "Yes, there is someone here for him," Tara said. Brian smiled, "What did we ever do to deserve to be watched over like this?" "I dunno, remember I am kinda new at this," Tara said with a smile. Brian looked at her, and Tara could tell that he wanted to ask her something. "What do you want to know?" she asked. "Well, I was just thinking, when you leave here, will you still be watching us, or will you go on to someone else?" Brian asked. "I really don't know Brian," Tara said. "I'm just saying that it's really nice knowing who's watching out for ya, ya know?" Brian said with a goofy smile. Tara laughed. "Hey what are you guys doing?" Nick asked as he walked into the kitchen. "Did we wake you?" Tara asked. "Naw, I just woke up and you weren't there," Nick said. Brian looked at him and smiled. "OK, what are you talking about?" Nick asked. "Stuff," Brian said with an even bigger smile. Nick looked over at Tara, "What'd you tell him?" he asked. Tara gave him her most innocent look, "Not a thing," she said with a smile. "OK, that's it, I'm going back to sleep," Nick said as he started out of the room. Just then Leighanne came into the kitchen. "Hey baby," Brian said. "What are you doing out here, I woke up and you were gone," she said. "That's what I wanna know too," Nick chimed in. "We were just talking. I had another dream," Brian said. Leighanne nodded her head, "Oh, are you all right?" "Yeah, I am now," Brian answered. Nick stood there with a confused look on his face, "Will someone explain to me why Brian having a bad dream involves Tara?" Tara reached over and grabbed Nick's hand, "Nick, Brian and I share dreams." Nick looked down at Tara, "No way!" Tara nodded her head and so did Brian. "Lee, did you know about this?" Nick asked. "Yes," Leighanne said as she sat down next to Brian. "Well was anyone going to tell me about it?" Nick asked. Brian and Tara looked at each other, "Nick, it was on a need to know basis and at the time you didn't need to know," Tara said. Nick sat down next to Tara and stared into her eyes, "OhhhhhhhhKkkkkkkkkkk, I see how you are," he said with a smile. All four laughed. Brian put his hands on the table and looked down. "What is it Brian?" Tara asked. He looked up, "I think I want to go see Kevin in the morning." Leighanne and Nick looked at each other in shock. "Honey, are you sure about this?" Leighanne asked. Brian looked at her, "Yeah, I really do want to go see him." "I think that will be a good thing," Tara said, "Do you want us to go with you?" Brian looked at them, "Yeah, I think we should all go." Nick looked over at Brian, "You want D and A.J. to come too?" Brian thought for a moment, "Yeah, all of us, it's time we get things worked out between us." Chapter 31 |
