| Chapter 21 Kira unlocked the door to her apartment and let Howie inside. "Excuse the mess, I haven't had time lately to do any work around here," she said. Howie walked in and looked around. It was a very quaint apartment, two bedrooms, a bath, dinning room and living room. Kira had it decorated in an oriental motif. There was a beautiful mural on the wall in the living room, "Did you have someone do this for you?" Howie asked admiring it. Kira came out of the bedroom with a pair of jeans and a tank top on, "No, I actually did that myself," she said smiling. Howie looked surprised, "Wow, it's really good." Kira plopped down on the couch, "Thanks." Howie walked over to the couch and sat down next to Kira. "So, what do you want to watch? The comedy, the horror, or the chick flick?" Kira asked. "I don't care, you pick," Howie said. Kira looked at him, she could see that he was bothered by something, "Or we could just talk," she said. Howie looked at her for a moment, "I'd like that." "What do you want to talk about?" Kira asked. Howie just shrugged his shoulders. Kira crossed her legs indian style and faced him, "Tell me what the doctor said about Brian," she said. Howie took a deep breath, "He said that Brian has an inoperable brain tumor. He gave him some medicine, but it's only gonna prolong his life for a few months." Kira was shocked, "There's nothing more they can do?" Howie shook his head, "The doc said he might have a year if the medicine works." "What if it doesn't?" Kira asked. "Then maybe three, four months at the most," Howie answered. She could tell he was really upset, she reached over and took his hand in hers. "You said that Lee was angry with him, what about?" she asked. Howie looked at her, "She thinks that Bri and Tara are having an affair." "You're kidding? What makes her think that?" Kira asked. Howie just shrugged his shoulders again. "I hate to ask this, but do you think they are?" she asked. He sat there for a minute, "I don't think so." ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Leighanne and Gary were on their way back from the set. It had been a very long day, nothing seemed to work right. Leighanne stared out the window. As they passed her house she noticed that no one was there. "Penny for your thoughts," Gary said. Leighanne looked over at him, "I just noticed no one was at the house." "Do you think he's staying with Kevin?" Gary asked, knowing what she was thinking. "No, most likely he's at Nick's. Poor Nick, he doesn't even have a clue," she said with a heavy sigh. They traveled in silence for a few minutes. "Gary, do you think I should go talk to him?" Leighanne asked. Gary glanced over at her, "Who Nick?" "No, Brian. I mean we just left things so unsettled," she said. "Anne, if you feel like you need to go talk to him, then by all means go. I just don't wanna see you hurt, that's all," Gary said. Leighanne looked back out the window, "Maybe I'll wait a few days, let things cool off for a while." Gary nodded his head, Yeah, let's not go talk to hubby just yet, he thought. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ A.J. sat in Brian's room watching him sleep. Brian's headache had really scared him, he'd never seen Brian in that much pain before. Tara and Nick had gone downstairs to fix something to eat, that had been quite a while ago. A.J. sat there thinking about all the goofy times he'd shared with Brian, and how he wouldn't have many more before he was gone. He looked out the window and wondered how Brian could still believe in a God that would put him through everything he'd been through in his life. Then he remembered Tara telling him that prayer might be his only hope. He looked back down at Brian. It'd been a really long time since he had prayed about anything, but if he was gonna start, this was as good a time as any. God, this is A.J., um Alex, Alexander. Hell you know who I am, sorry not suppose to say hell. Anyway, I wanna talk to you about Rok, um Brian. I'm sure you know who I mean. Please do something! Send some kinda cure or something. I just can't believe that after all he's been through, and that's been a hell of a lot, sorry---anyway, I can't believe he's having to go through this. I could handle this better if it was me, why couldn't it had been me? I don't even know what to say to him, or how to act around him now. This is just fu--, um, sorry. This is just great, my best friend is going through this and I can't even do anything for him! Please just do something, anything. A.J. sat there for a moment, not knowing what else to say, K, um, bye, amen, whatever. * Jade looked over at Tracy, "Well it's a start," she said. Tracy laughed a little, "A bit crude, but still a start." * ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ "What do you mean you don't think so?" Kira asked. Howie settled in a bit more on the couch, "It's kinda hard to tell with those two. I mean I know beyond a shadow of a doubt that Tara loves Nick, and Brian completely loves Lee, but Bri and Tara have always had this--bond, it's hard to explain." "You mean like good friends like bond?" she asked. "No, it goes way deeper than just that. See Tara um, well they just share things, like dreams, and stuff," Howie said. Kira looked at him confused, "You mean like tell each other their dreams?" "No, they have the same dream at the same time, that kind of sharing," Howie answered. Kira looked intrigued, "What else do they do?" "Well, they, um, can hear what the other is thinking sometimes, and Tara can feel when Brian is in pain, stuff like that," Howie said. "Really? That's interesting. I guess it would be hard to tell, seeing a bond like that," Kira said. "Yeah, I never really thought about it before, but yeah it would," Howie said. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Brian slowly opened his eyes, and looked around. A.J. was staring out the window, looking quite bored. "How long I been asleep?" Brian asked softly. A.J. jumped, not realizing Brian was awake. "Um, bout three hours I think," he answered. Brian rolled over on his side where he could see A.J. better. "Bone, you been here the whole time?" Brian asked. "Pretty much, I was worried bout ya," A.J. answered. Brian smiled at his friend, "I'll be OK, just need to lay here for a while." "Your head still hurt?" A.J. asked. "Yeah a little, not like it was though," Brian answered. "Good, I don't think I could watch you go through that again," A.J. said. They sat in silence for a moment, "Bri, can I ask you something?" A.J. said. "Sure," Brian said. "Um, what's up with Lee? Tara kinda filled me in when I got here, but I don't get what's going on with you two," A.J. said. "Somehow she got it in her head that Tara and I are having an affair, and no matter what I say to her, she still thinks that," Brian said. A.J. sat there thinking for a minute, "Bri, I don't wanna make you mad, but the average person on the street, looking at you two would probably think the same thing." Brian sat up a little and looked at A.J. in shock, "Bone, why would you say that?" "Because it's true, Rok, step back and look at you two. You have this freaky ass bond between you, you guys know things about each other, that Lee and Nick will never know," A.J. said. Brian thought for a minute, "I never thought of it that way." A.J. sat there looking like he wanted to ask something. "Go ahead and ask whatever it is you're to chicken to," Brian said. "Who you callin chicken?" A.J. said with a smile, then promptly clucked. They both laughed. "I was just thinking, if things were different, would you and Tara have gotten together," A.J. finally said. "What do you mean if things were different?" Brian asked stalling. "I mean if Nick and Lee weren't in the picture. With what you two already have, do you think you would've gotten together?" A.J. asked. Brian rolled over, his back to A.J., "My head is starting to hurt again," he said. A.J. got up and walked around to the other side of the bed, facing Brian again, "Rok, if you don't wanna answer the question, just say so." "I don't wanna talk about this," Brian said, not looking at him. A.J. looked at him for a moment, then a look of recognition came across his face, "You have feelings for her don't you?" "A.J. I don't wanna talk about this," Brian said again. "Alright man, I'm gonna go downstairs, you need anything?" A.J. said. "No," Brian said pulling a pillow over his head. A.J. left the room and closed the door. When Brian heard the door shut he sat up in bed and looked out the window. Damn it A.J. why'd you have to ask that? Chapter 22 |
