In the Past (or...What have you NOT raced?)
You might say that I was born to race.  My grandfather (the guy in the hat) built and mechanic'd race cars forever.  You can tell by the cars in the background that this picture was taken sometime in the 40's, it's at a local dirt track that's still in operation today.  He took me to that track just about every weekend before I could even walk.  We didn't sit in the stands, we walked
(OK, I was carried at first) through the pits and talked to all the drivers and mechanics, etc.  So early on in my life, I came to appreciate the smell of race gas, the roar of powerful engines and the speed the two produced when put together.
It got in my blood, and over the years, I've driven or ridden just about everything with wheels.
I started out, like my buddy Jason, and most kids, on a gocart.  But mine was the single-seat variety.  The first, and only, thing done to it was done as soon as it came out of the box.  My grandfather, the mechanic  (see above) took off the governor spring..."so it'll go faster".  Ahhh,  a true racer at heart.  I drove that thing 'til I flipped it over on top of myself. Then my parents decided it would be safer if I had a motorcycle.
Eventually, I started racing bikes...80's to be specific...and made it all the way to the NMA Nationals in Ponca City, OK (that's this picture) and the AMA Nationals in Hurricane Mills, TN.  I'm on a Kawasaki in the picture, but I also rode a Yamaha YZ80 in another class.  Notice the Yamaha pants I'm wearing.  My loyalty to Yamaha continues to this day.
Wondering what these are?  They're outhouses.  Yes, we're racing an outhouse.  Ours is the nearest to the camera... the one with an Indy-style wing and aerodynamic nose.  Most of me is hidden by the outhouse.  It was a thing for a client of the ad agency I worked at.  It was fun...and besides, how
many people can say they've ever raced an outhouse?  Notice the number on the side...something else that continues today.
