Klarion #4

Burn, Witchboy! Burn!

Grant Morrison - Writing

Frasier Irving - Artist

The zealous puritan folk of Limbo Town plan to burn Klarion at the stake for his heretical ideas of a silver city past the wicker gate and under the blue rafters as Mister Melmoth invades. During the commotion, Klarion's sister Beulah cuts his binds and hurries him off to ring the Sabbat Bells nine times. Just as Melmoth finishes explaining his spawning of the citizens of Limbo Town, Klarion sounds the bells, awakening the Grundys to help combat Melmoth's forces. At the bell tower, Klarion speaks with the newly ressurected Judah, who gives him a rod to bind himself with his cat Teekl, becoming an aspect of Horigal.

Melmoth reveals that the Witch-God Croatoan is an artificial intelligence system composed of a pair of dice. Melmoth makes his way to the bell tower and finishes off Judah. The Klarion/Teekl version of Horigal snatches up and devours Melmoth only to find that He is immortal thanks to the waters of the Cauldron of Rebirth running through him. Melmoth escapes and his remaining troops are immolated. Klarion then decides to pursue Melmoth.

Featured Characters:

In Limbo Town, somewhere beneath the surface world, Puritan witches live. There, the dead awaken from their eternal slumber as Grundys to toil in the fields. Here, Klarion grows restless and defiant wanting to leave the mundane existence that Limbo Town enslaves him in to find splendor beneath the legendary "Blue Rafters."

Teekl
Klarion's Mother
Beulah, Klarion's sister
Submissionary Judah
Melmoth the Wanderer

Noteworthy Items:

Melmoth mated with Puritan girls who hid underground ashamed they had sex with the devil and thus the birth of the Witch people. Melmoth’s treatment of the Puritan girls and his plans for the Witch-Girls seems to parallel the ordeal of Olwen in Shining Knight #1, who was “passed around Gloriana’s court” until she was corrupted and became a changeling.

Melmoth reveals that the Witch-God Croatoan is an artificial intelligence system composed of a pair of dice. One is owned by Misty Kilgore from Zatanna #3, the other Klarion carried to the surface world in Klarion #2.Keep in mind the three Submissionary men were created in Melmoth's toyshop. So, the Sheeda went from Aliens to fairies to something else?

The map has been rumored to be a map of Faireland/Summers End.
