5th May: Waking with a sorry head after being attacked by the beer bandit yet again, I managed to pull the zips on my pack closed with some pliers, update my paperwork and crawl into the family wagon. My parents, being used to the departures of errant offspring, have now a system where all is said on the journey to the airport, enabling the departing family member to be dropped off feeling fully farewelled. Timing was just about right (ie. jump the check-in queue after the flight is called as usual, discover that your boots contain some kind of strange, magnetic material on the security screen and run to the gate). After discovering that Qantas had decided that hot lunches were a perk and that nuts and dried fruit would better suit our appetites, I hungrily arrived in Sydney to find the trusty Michael parked in the 10 (ish) minute zone. After another interesting drive through Sydney traffic, dropping my gear off and
Grabbing our trimmed backpacks and then strapping our wetties to the back, Michael and I headed out to see whether winter had yet struck our shores.
