6th May: Grabbing our trimmed backpacks and then strapping our wetties to the back, Michael and I headed out to see whether winter had yet struck our shores. Michael proved to be an excellent tour guide (not for the last time) by arriving the required 1 hour "late" for the bus. There followed the standard long bus trip to Point Plomer, with the difference that there were 15 multinational backpackers trying out different languages at once.. Jack lived up to his Hardcore nickname and got us there in time for a surf before sunset! Michael grabs his board and we head out to my first point break... it'll be fine he scoffs and jumps off the rocks... minutes later, I caught the best wave I'd had for years. Nice one. Thoughtfully, the crew kept the Social Stimulaters in an esky, so the conversation kept flowing around the campfire, along with the smell of burnt marshmellows "late" into the night. NB. camping late = about 9:30pm. Topics such as cold showers and mossies were ignored in favour of the sunset, surf and serenity... and so began the first night of many, falling asleep with the pounding of surf complimenting the sensation of the surf still pulling at your body.
