7th May: Waking from viscous slumber to the sound of Kookaburras, a quick glimpse out of the tent showed clear blue right handers once again, so Don, Tom, Michael and I spent a couple pre-brekky hours finding out how deep the water was over the reef. We missed the Yoga session run by Scotty, but certainly caught the muesli/fresh fruit breakfast.. then a quick lesson by Jack on how not to kill each other in the water, followed by more surfing... a pattern was already developing to this trip. After a quick siesta, Michael & I did manage to wander around the point by land, noting birds and inquisitive roos, to find some prime chill-out space on the head, perfect for trying out the water-colours my Dad gave me b4 I left. My first attempt on the beautiful coast and headlands certainly won't make the scanner! Surfing continued until the sun set, and after dinner most of the crew were pondering where the team masseur was.. somehow Mike pulled in an old dept with a massage from Rain, but the rest of us were not disappointed as we managed to pull a ballad out of Jack.. and what a spiel it was. Written by him during his surfari up the west coast of south America about a wave he and a mate surfed in Oz. I don't have it written here, seems different if he didn't recite all 80 or so lines by heart around the camp fire - stunning. Banjo step back.
