Sydney-Byron Surf Safari
8th May: Somewhat slow start due to lack of movement in upper body early on. This seems to be cured by some tasty fruit salad and a Yoga session. Not too sure about the part where you bark like a dingo or growl like a lion to the sky though. Good gear. Rather solid session of surfing followed, with me finding out exactly what 1 or 2 Gs of water pressure through your sinuses can do. It's not easy taking the green face. About this time Jack catches a wave and does a prolonged headstand, then catches a wave with him and the board facing backwards... We roll awkwardly into the bus at 2 and cruise up the Pacific Highway for a beer replenishment stop and to survey the well made Surf Museum atabout 7pm. I honestly didn't realise how big waves could get, nor how these boys could catch them, even with the help of a jetski tow. The owner devoted his younger life to surfing and devotes his older life to checking out the chicks that Jack brings him.. We arrive at Minnie Waters after a tasty pizza in time to set up tents and watch some interesting pommie humour from John to the tune of digeridoos, guitars and drums. During one rough joke, the nakedness of John's "victim" was caught on a video with night vision, to the amusement of almost all during the slow mo advance shortly afterwards. Lisa, if you still have a copy, I'll whack it on the net.. Scotty's skills were unparallelled with the Dij, he taught me the Emu call along with some Dreamtime tales he'd picked up from the communities of central Australia.
