Buzios
8th Jun (Sat): Waking early I walked to the scenic Brava Beach where surfing was normally excellent.. but not today. The sand was a remarkable red hue in places. After checking out the nudist beach (deserted at 9 in the morning) I made a foolish attempt to take a short cut home, giving my cross-country Birkenstocks a good workout before backtracking.. I wondered why the roads were so quiet.. until I walked past a petrol station where the attendants had to be dragged away from the TV to take money from motorists... another footy game was on and I didnīt know! Brazil versus China.. After breakfast and the game I took a van to Geriba beach where the beach was full by 12 but the surf was tiny. It was hard to avoid checking out the school aged girls on the beach so I amused myself with painting a watercolour and drinking coconut milk while looking for a volleyball game. As Paul pointed out, a Brazilian is happy if he can have the beach, girls and beer. Getting back to Buzios in time for the sun set on the pier, I met up with Paul and Maureen who had come down for the night and we went for drinks (strawberrys and brazilian rumīs a new one for me) and a sensational seafood dinner washed down with Chilean wine while listening to live music at Brigitts restaurant. Maureen noted that Brazilians donīt take music to parties - they make it themselves - thatīs what the party is! Although the town was apparently īdeadīwe still managed to stay up to 4 without noticing...
