Rio Part II
10th - 13th July (Thurs-Sat): On Thursday, Chris (an english guy staying in the Pousada) returned from Bahia (the north of Brasil). We got on well - he being a surfing chef with a black belt in Taekwondo now practicing Capoeira and he inspired me to make more use of the abundant Brasilian fruits (see photos) - incredible. LeBaõ returned from Teresopolis so we went for all you can eat pizza - the banana and maple syrup ones were my favourite. Friday´s surf lesson was rewarding even though the rain clouds had rolled in again for some 20 degree showers. I managed three turns on a wave and no longer think about standing up. Additionally I was asked to translate for Mark, an English guy! Flattery! He decided to stay at the same Pousada and ended up buying my bike from me. I had gotten to know Marcos, a friend of a friend, who worked at Six, a club near the Centre so I asked around for takers and both Leo and Samuel were keen to go out except Samuel wanted to go to another place. Deciding to go with Leo to Six, Samuel dropped me off at Leo´s place, or rather I dropped him off as he let me drive - Interesting! Take no prisoners and don´t slow down for the police!! After being shown two appartments where young people usually live in their ivory towers with their parents with balcony views of the outside world we found Six to be a good bar (especially with Marcos´s free gin and tonics). I had my first crepe in a nightclub. Listening to Freddie Mercury scream out "we are the champions", inebriated, in the back of the car at 4am, in Rio is an experience in itself.
